it started out like everything else I guess
you are what you are until suddenly you're like all the rest
I looked out over the bay at the water and the lights
I noticed we had gone to great lengths but not to great heights
the bus ride to meet you here took me half my life
and although the days were clear we drove that night
I sat next to a woman who moved to the memory of effigy
I tried to sing along but she couldn't hear me

we are dancing invisible
there are small things the day brings
like cut strings that we never pull
and after tonight when these things fade from sight
I might get you through
maybe you know me now but it's strange somehow
if I'm lost too
maybe you know me now but it's strange somehow
if I'm lost too

lights split the window and the wind blew me away
and the sun scraped the distance like an acceptable mistake
I stared at the road signs and the possibilities they'd take me
away from you
it's funny but in this place it's the only thing that you can hear
those far distant echoes that blow through only to disappear
when the rain drops and the bus stops and the coast is clear
and I feel you're near

I will break it again
I will break it again
I will break it again

we are dancing invisible
there are small things the day brings
like cut strings that we never pull
and after tonight when these things fade from sight
I might get you through
maybe you know me now but it's strange somehow
if I'm lost too
maybe you know me now but it's strange somehow
if I'm lost

it all ends up like everything else, I guess
you are what you are
you do what you do
and you get what you get
somewhere short of regret
I looked out over the bay
at the water and the lights
and I noticed we had gone to great lengths but not to great heights
and only the crier cries at the break of dawn
I stood boxing my shadow thinking how to get along
so to yourself or another man to who you belong
when there's nothing left to fight is it easier to be right
when you know you're wrong

you are dancing invisible
there are small things the day brings
like cut strings that we never pull
and after tonight when these things fade from sight
I might get you through
maybe you know me now but it's strange somehow
if I'm lost too
maybe you know me now but it's strange somehow
if I'm lost

General Commentwow...no one has commented yet?! I know its an older song..but one of the best off his original old stuff...

basically speaks for itself...we become like everyone else even though we think we are all on this individual journey..we really just end up being adults paying bills..childhood dreams are gone

'the bus ride to meet you here took me half my life'

basically what i get out of this is that getting what you realize is important in life, be it a person, or whatever, ends up taking longer than you planned...its like we waste so much time getting what we want..half our lifes gone by the time it comes..

Personally i think he died..he's not being heard and hes dancing invisible and he never fully got what he wanted, and its like hes eternally trying to get back to her...when he realizes hes not heard, he finally listens and feels her..but its too late either that or he died and she moved on..and they are still connected by his love for her
near the end shes with another man, he took too long to get to her because of distractions

General Commenti take some of what i wrote back! hes trying to get her through to where he is...and i think what they had was good..the end is saying shes with another man and is pretending that moving on will make it better...she knows thats wrong though..and if you notice the beginning was "we are dancing..." to "you are dancing invisible"... shes tried to move on, and really its a song that sounds simple but i dont think it is at all now that im listening more closely...
