Coma kid taught me how
He'd come to follow you around
Wherever you go
Said I don't go where I'm supposed to go

And I don't go really anywhere you know
Told me how he's driven by a curse
'Til he kicked out into reverse
Said I don't go where I'm supposed to go

And I don't go really anywhere you know
I made up my mind and I don't mind saying so
I went to meet you at central square
And when I couldn't find you there

I went walking around the city some more
People watching with a cold blank stare
And I saw your face in everyone I swear
Seems I never get your kick quite right

I was walkin' slow to a dirty dive
I'm so sick and tired tryin' to change your mind
When its so easy to disconnect mine

High times
High times
High times
Yeah I feel fine
High times
High times
High times

Man I feel fine
Don't pick me up
I'm fine right where I am
I don't go where I'm supposed to go
Where I'm supposed to go

I signed up here because no-one had commented on this song. I've just heard the Basement B-sides and this is easily the best track there. Much alike 2:45am it builds to somewhat of a crescendo but I think this is much more effective. Looking at the lyrics doesn't really give justice to how the song really is or how it makes me feel. A feel a sense of desperation in the song. The line "yeah I feel fine" couldn't be sung in a less convincing way.

But the line that leaves me breathless everytime is: "i was so sick and tired tryin to change your mind when its so easy to disconnect mine"

    God damn I love Elliot.

yeah this song reminds me of 2:45 am too at the pick up...it's really a brilliant song...the lines "im so sick of tired to change your mind when it's so easy to disconnect mine" really hit close to home for me.

this is one of the best songs on there, definetly.

i like this line the most: "i made up my mind and i don't mind saying so" and the song really kicks in after this part.

This is an intense and haunting song, and what an effect it has. This is one of his best unrealeased tracks in my opinion. I love when he sings "I'm fine right where I am."

This is an amazing song. Hey there's a couple T's at the end of Elliott, not just one.

I'm surprised there is not more comments on this one. It's one of my favorites. Everyone's already said everything though. Love, love, love

My favorite excerpts from this song.

Said I don't go where I'm supposed to go And I don't go really anywhere you know

I made up my mind and I don't mind saying so I went to meet you at Central Square And when I couldn't find you there I went walking around the city some more People watching with a cold blank stare And I saw your face in everyone, I swear

I'M SO SICK AND TIRED TRYIN TO CHANGE YOUR MIND WHEN IT'S SO EASY TO DISCONNECT MINE

High times Man, I feel fine Don't pick me up I'm fine right where I am

Amen dear, sweet, Elliott. It kills me that you are no longer with us. I feel such a deep sense of loss when I think about it. You deserve so much more credit. I don't think "under-appreciated" is quite the right way to put it b/c the people who know your music appreciate it more than anything. And I believe anyone who hears it will fall in love...so I guess the word I'm looking for is under-recognized...if that's even a word. Not enough people have been exposed to your brilliance. Much of the music that is celebrated and successful in the mainstream is just...pathetic.

You should have been the one to receive all the glory. Not fame, I know you were shy and hated that kind of attention. I just mean you deserved to be happy. Your music deserves to be wildly applauded and celebrated. You have helped SO many people...and your legacy lives on. I guess that is the one silver-lining... even though you are no longer here in the physical sense, you will live on forever through the music you created.

Sadly I was really late discovering Elliott Smith. But since I have, I cannot get enough of him!

A really good friend of mine died of a Heroin overdose a couple years ago, and this song was and is, on my favorite song list. This song completely connected to my friends death in my mind. Here’s why...

‘Told me how he’s been driven by a curse Til he kicked out into reverse” Anyone who’s ever dealt with heroin addiction knows that it’s a curse That you live with and most likely wrestle with the rest of your life. And those lines make me think about the in and out of using Kicking

“Said I don’t go where I’m supposed to go And I don’t really go anywhere at all” ....Your life is stunted when using You stop enjoying doing the things you used to

“And I made up my mind and I don’t mind” Giving into to getting high

“‘I went to meet you at central square And when I couldn’t find you there I went walking round the city some more’” ‘People watching with a cold blank stare’” “And I saw your face in everyone I swear” ...anyone not part of your world at this point is alien. That entire verse haunted me because my friend who died I kept expecting to see him just cruising around town But he was gone

‘ I was walking slow to a dirty dive’ ... describes the feeling of being really loaded.. ...In your own world

‘I was so sick of trying to change your mind When it’s so easy to disconnect mind’ I’ve never known one addict who wasn’t trying to get off of dope And usually you have a buddy You don’t want to quit alone So you make little pacts that tomorrow you’ll both stop But it’s just so much easier to go get high again

‘High times Yeah I feel fine” ‘Don’t pick me up Cause I’m fine right where I am” If it weren’t a great feeling It wouldn’t be so hard to quit

‘I don’t go where I’m supposed to go’ copping dope

There’s not an addict out there that does not wrestle with their addiction In my opinion

So I could be wrong But the beautiful thing about music is it speaks to us all right where we are in that moment And this was my song for losing my friend

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
