"Wax and Wane (Cocteau Twins cover)" as written by William Heggie, Robin A. Guthrie and Elizabeth Fraser....
Carrying prose.
Broke my real friend.
The devil might steady.
We wax and we wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.

Licking alms.
The devil might steady.
Rattling we'll taste.
We wax and we wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.

Caring is a berry gin shot.
The devil might steady
Up 'til he wanes.
Oh, we laugh in their faces.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.
The devil might steady,
We wax and wane.

General CommentI'm not a Pagan..but it seems to me to have ritualistic conotations to it. Wax and Wane have meaning together when you talk about the lunar cycle. Wax: To show a progressively larger illuminated area, as the moon does in passing from new to full. Wane: To exhibit a decreasing illuminated area from full moon to new moon. The song is originaly by the band "Cocteau Twins"(1981) and they come from scotland. So the song has english scotish roots. (Stone Henge used to conduct rituals). This might add insite or not, to the song. Moon rituals are used in the pegan religion to add positive energy during the waxing of the moon and to take away negetive energy during waneing of the moon. So I think the song is about repenting. What the devil might steady in us. We have the ability to wax and wayne to become stronger. The first verse kind of sets up its going to be a rythmic chant. that is what a prose is. "Caring in a berry gin shot" might have to do with drinking to solve problems. "Up 'till he wanes" meaning he quits drinking. "Oh, we laugh in their faces." meaning getting over past problems and laughing in its face. This is my interpretation. I Would like to hear any other ideas. Check you all later.

General Commentalso, this version is better cz the drums. the original cocteau twins version not as good cuz the singer sucks. pretty static voice, not much feeling

General CommentWe had a huge arguement over this song. My friend was convinced he was saying: The devil's my daddy. but I was sure he was saying The devil might steady. i agree with Phoenix778m, this song does have old religion roots to it. I think that Chino made this song brilliant with his eerie vocals along with the already eerie words. great song!

General CommentI really had no idea what it meant, and thats why i looked here, I see Phoenix Nailed it, cause i was gonna look up the definitions of Wax and Wane lol but That line "caring is a berry gin shot" i think the word berry is actually "bury" like "caring is a bury gin shot" And that makes u think? Lol

also i saw those lyrics on "deftonesworld.com" so, Someone get back to me with that one.
