"Dead Promises" as written by Eicca Toppinen, Eero Aleksi Heinonen, Lauri Ylonen, Aki-markus Hakala and Pauli Rantasalmi....
The break of dawn kills all the beauty
The dead of night is drifting away
I should have stayed and welcome the day
I should have find the one and hide from the sun

The ray of light cuts like a razor
Breaking fire burst in my eye
The day reveals the dreadful betrayal
And its wicked mind, hide from the sun
Hide from the sun, hide from the sun

Dead promises
Raining from the world so cold
Ancient prophecies
Remain from the world so cold

The time has come
Hide from the sun

Like a rat I run to the darkness
Ray of light erases my mind
Afraid to look back into the heartless
World of dust and blood, hide from the sun
Hide from the sun, hide from the sun

The time has come
Hide from the sun

I won't be better
I won't be a speeder
In my own heaven
I'll be gone forever
Oh no die never
I won't cry never
Oh no die never

The time has come
Hide from the sun

General CommentThis is a cool song, why aren't more people commenting on it? He sounds like a reclusive vampire that has conflicting feelings on accepting his fate or avenging what has been done.

General Commentthe title of the album "hide from the sun" is about the way they live when they're on tour, partying all night, doing concerts and stuff, they sleep all day, like vampires, so ibelieve this song is pushing that feeling to it's extreme point, with everything the darkness brings. with the CORRECT lyrics:
    I know me better
    i won't be as bitter
    in my own heaven
    i'll be gone forever"
He is saying that they are aware of their life, in their heaven (parties maybe?) he'll get lost in them, and all his nightlife makes him bitter...

General CommentYay! The correct lyrics!!! Why don't people look in the cd cover? Oh, but people download the songs, right, right, why don't they support the band if they like it so much, then? I do...

The real lyrics are as follows:
The break of dawn kills all/the beauty/The dead of night is/drifting away/Should I stay and welcome the day/Or should I follow the one/And hide from the sun
The ray of light cuts like a razor/The blazing fire burns/in my eyes/The day reveals the/dreadful betrayer/And his wicked mind/Hide from the sun/And hide from the sun
Dead promises/Paintings of the world so pure/Ancient prophecies/Remains of the world so cruel/The time has come/To hide from the sun
Like a rat I run to/the darkness/The ray of night embraces/my mind/Afraid to look back in to/the heartless/World of dust and blood/I'll hide from the sun
I know me better/I won't be as bitter/In my own heaven/I'll be gone forever
Won't fall back never/I won't crack ever/Won't look back never

There, taken straight from the cd cover, just so people know what's going on...

General CommentThe American iTunes has mistakenly put the title of this song as Dear Promises, instead of Dead Promises.
Just throwning that out there in case anyone's ever confused.

General Commenti just love this band, and this song. Its great. the Lyrics to this song are really great.
In school Ive had an assignment on the english Romantic period (you know, keats and stuff). and part the assignment was to find a modern romantic lyric. and I actually got away with using this song.

General Commentthis is a greaat song!
very strong lyrics and music!! i think The Rasmus went to the next level with this album!
it's more serious, lyrics more mature and deeper than their past work
i really loooove this album, but still I'm undecided between "Into" or "Hide From The Sun"
can't pick one to be my favourite between them!

General CommentHmmm very very inturesting song. great song by the Rasmus once again. this song is very puzzeling first of all it is very inturesting that this song is about hiding from the sun, wich the sun is usualy refered to as happiness and joy warmth ect. but in this case the song is written showing the sun in a new light ^.^ as something to stay away from to "hide from". now hiding from the sun? no "the day reveals the dreadful betrayal, and its wiked mind" so its not only the day or the light that he wants to hide from, it is also this "betrayal" betrayal of what? well he mentions befre this that "i should have find the one and hide from the sun". the "one" hmm now whome is he refering to well the sun as he sees it as something that hurts him "cuts like a razor" well could this "one" have been someone that would come with him to hide from the sun. and maybe "betrayal" was made by someone else who wont go out of the sun with him. that starts another question what is exactly the sun? is it a metaphore for something? well he says that he is "afraid to look back into the heartless, world of dust and blood" he also describes himself as a rat running from the sun, so he says he is a coward because he is afraid and rats also represent cowards, so the sun seemes to represent the world full of blood hate heartlessness ect. things that he cant deal with things that hurt him, but he wants to find "the one" or someone else that feels the same way and can go away from the world with him. Now something that is realy puzziling to me is the lines "Dead promises Raining from the world so cold Ancient prophecies Remain from the world so cold " well dead promises happen all the time in real life thats just part of life, but ancient proficies what proficies are he refering to? that i do not know but apparantly "the time has come, hide from the sun". well thats just my crazy mumbelings about stuff anyways hope it helped somehow.

General CommentWell thanks dmon . . . However from my perspective this song has much greater meaning . . . Besides the fact that it is the description of the bands nocturnal life . . . From my point of view it is the description of a person who has lost all forms of hope . . . due to bitter experiences in his or her personal life and has now vented their bitterness to the very source of comfort . . . A very common mistake that we humans tend to make out of senselessness and ignorance . . . The sun . . Represents any form of enlightenment . . . Especially spiritual . . . The source of truth and energy . . . Hiding from the sun is symbolic of rejecting the path of spirituality due to growing cold towards it . . . This is a reaction found in many people today . . . And they cannot be blamed for this either . . . . Ancient prophecies and dead promises are symbolic of the hopes laid out by many spirital beliefs . . . Yet these are rejected due to personal experiences proving the 'senselessness' in believing them . . .
