I finally gave myself the time to see you
I finally gave myself the time to see you
I finally gave myself the time to see you for a while
If only we could see past the veneer we'd see another side of you

Simone said she would think about not seeing me
Simone said she would think about not seeing me
Simone said she would think about not seeing me for a while
I hung around with her for forty days and forty nights, it was a wilderness

If only you would stop, look and listen
If only you would stop, look and listen
If only you would stop, look and listen you'd be fine
But being deaf and being blind just seems to be the way you spend your time

Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Your words are true and all I do is dream

Spent summer in the city of my childhood
Spent summer in the city of my childhood
Spent summer in the city of my childhood for old times
But there's no going back for me, the faces had all changed I was a stranger

Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Your words are true and all I do is dream
If only we could see past the veneer we'd see another side of you

I live alone the silence it can take you
I live alone the silence it can make you
I live alone the silence it can break you after a while
Not long ago I made a deal, the ghosts around the house all seem to like me

My life is falling down I am surrounded
My life is falling down I am confounded
My life is falling down I am dumbfounded, what a mess
I lay back silent as a cat and let you work your mysteries of healing

Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Being alone, it's not a problem when I think of you
Your words are true and all I do
Is think of you, your words are true and all I do
Is think of you, your words are true and all I do is dream
If only we could see past the veneer we'd see another side of you

I guess this song is one of the lesser known Belle & Sebastian ones, but it's great nonetheless! It's one of the true Stevie and Stuart duets. I find it very reminiscent of The Beatles during the Let It Be period, and Bob Dylan during Nashville Skyline. Definitely a mixture of those two, for me, which is fantastic because there are no two bands/artists I have more respect for (and, I suspect, Belle & Sebastian feel much the same way).

More than any other B&S song, it really sounds like a jam, especially the last few minutes (wow, Stevie is just a star on the guitar, isn't he?).

Anyway, just wanted to open the floor to the discussions of this song because I really love it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
