"Women's Realm" as written by and Martin/murdoch/colburn/cooke/geddes/jackson/campbe....
I don't care whether you hear this
I don't care if I'm alone here singing songs to myself
There's nobody else around, around
Meet you up at the Indian part of the town

The town's shut down, the people left with their bags
Their kids so there's not a sound a sound
But I must get from there to here
There's a small voice crying on the other side of the river from here

It's too late to phone her now
What went wrong, your grades were good
It would take a left wing Robin Hood to pay for school
Your dad's a boozer and you keep him alive

Just a minute close your eyes
If we settle for this compromise I'll stay with you
The river looks so good tonight
I don't know what's with your friend

She met a boy and at the summer's end
She said she'd had enough of playing games
I don't care cause I'm by myself
All the dancers left but I can't dance

So I will stay and clean the mess they left behind
But I dream as I set to scrub all the floors, the walls
I'm thinking of a song or two, a boy a girl a rendezvous
Are you coming or are you not?

There is nothing that would sort you out
There's nothing I could say or do
You're going to crash, I'll set the bails in front of you
Are you coming or are you not?

There is nothing that would sort you out
An interesting way of life
Deny yourself the benefits of being alive
You slept better in a sleeping train in a shed in a station

With a torch and a Woman's Realm to keep you warm
To keep you company
You slept better in a sleeping train in a shed in a station
With a torch and a Woman's Realm to keep you company tonight

General CommentI think it's about a girl#1, and this song is a conversation between friends (man & girl#2)talking about girl#1.

    Man (stuart):
It's too late to phone her now
"What went wrong, your grades were good
It would take a left wing Robin Hood to pay for school
Your dad's a boozer and you keep him alive"

maybe girl#1 ranaway from school or home, and these friend are out looking for her and wandering what went wrong with her..

    girl #2 (isobel) :
Just a minute, close your eyes
If we settle for this compromise I'll stay with you
The river looks so good tonight
    I don't know what's with your friend
She met a boy and at the summer's end
She said she'd had enough of playing games

Love it so much when it comes to that part..it's Isobel singing right?
girl #2 actually have some feeling to this man, maybe she's jealous about the attention given to girl#1 and trying to stop the man from thinking about that girl "the river looks so good tonight, stay with me, forgot about her, she found someone anyway, she don't care about you.." --somekind of that i think..

but i don't understand the rest..who's goin to crash, who's deniying her/himself, about the sleeping train...dunno...

    General Comment?
    I love this song.
    Shame no one else does.
I remember when Iw as in Austria, I made my dad play "fold your hands child.." (my favourite album), and this song came up, and the instrumental, chamber music part came up, and we were curving right down the hill, and the music fit the moment perfectly.
I also like the fast talking.."you slept better in a sleeping train in a shed in a station with a torch and a Women's Realm to keep you company tonight.."

General CommentThis is still my favourite B&S song! So there are others who like it too.
I heard it late at night on CBC Radio 2 in Canada, then bought my first B&S album the next day... great song.

General Commenti really think about interpretations on b&s songs cause in a lot of them you can notice that there's something behind but in women's realm i don't see like there's A Meaning behind it.
ps i think the part where isobel? sings it would be better if sang by stuart. i know it's like an other person talking but idk i always think when stuart's not singing is such a waste
