"Big City Life" as written by and Robert Busby....
Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
Here my heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
My heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

People in a show
All lined in a row
We just push on by
It's funny
How hard we try

Take a moment to relax
Before you do anything rash

Don't you want to know me?
Be a friend of mine
I'll share some wisdom with you
Don't you ever get lonely
From time to time
Don't let the system get you down

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
Here my heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
My heart have no base,
And right now Babylon de pon me case

Soon our work is done
All of us one by one
Still we live our lives
As if all this stuff survives

Don't you want to know me?
Be a friend of mine
I'll share some wisdom with you
Don't you ever get lonely
From time to time
Don't let the system get you down

The linguist across the seas and the oceans
A permanent itinerant is what I've chosen
I find myself in big city prison,
Arisen from the vision of man kind
Designed, to keep me discreetly neatly in the corner
You'll find me with the flora and the fauna and the hardship
Back a yard is where my heart is still
I find it hard to depart this big city life

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
Here my heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
My heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
Here my heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

Big city life
Me try fi get by
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try
Big city life
My heart have no base
And right now Babylon de pon me case

General CommentBosenjak, the chorus is sung in Jamaican Creole. "Babylon" in this context is a Rasta term for the police, and the general corruption in "the system".

I think the general theme of the song is to sympathise with disadvantaged people who are more or less held down by their circumstances—the law is at best indifferent to their plight and at worst exploitative; better-off citizens are meanwhile absorbed in their own lives—which is done through the chorus, sung in a language perhaps more familiar to one of the disadvantaged groups.

There is an added message to these people, though, which is "don't let the system get you down". Mattafix urge those in despair to calm down for a moment. Don't panic. Don't let it get to you. Furthermore, don't become hostile towards others, because some of them do care and can help you out in one way or another, even if it's just sharing some wisdom.

I think de777 was on the right track, but I think they have understated the pressure some people find themselves facing. It's not so much a case of boredom being their problem, it's facing a real battle to even feed themselves and/or their family. For example, when de777 says, "wake up, go to work, go home and sleep", the problem for many of the disadvantaged people is that they have no work to go to.

You can see the video clip for this song at Mattafix's website (mattafix.co.uk); it should make things a little clearer.

General CommentI think the song is very catchy to the ear and the lyrics are interesting, too. I specially liked the video because it adds some ideas which help us to understand the general meaning of the song. "Take a moment to relax before you do something rash" is clearly related to the moment the girl is trying to break into the shop or maybe to the skater who is about to take drugs. The graffitis shown in the video (the words seek, tragedy, love ) also have a deeper meaning... Maybe people who seek tragedy and can only be helped if they find love...

P.S. Fabio, it was great to see your comment but you need to work on your English lol Give it a second try!

General CommentJust loved this track the first time i heard it, it's so chilled out in a kind of way,What its about? well i am not too sure but what i get on first impressions is that its all about city life and how we cant seem to get free of the preasure it puts on us.

    Don’t you wanna know me?,
    Be a friend of mine.
I’ll share some wisdom with you.
    Don’t you ever get lonely,
    From time to time
Don’t let the system get you down

the above verse puts an image in my head of crowds of people walking past each other in busy streets and no one knows each other.

I dont wanna analyse it too much i just wanna enjoy it with a nice joint :o)

General CommentYeah, i think it's about living in a city and how it can sometimes feel like a prison.. it can be very restricting with a lot of pressure. And the girl is sayng 'hey, wait a minute, calm down and take a step back'. I like it.. very nice to listen to late at night when you just wanna chill.

General CommentWehehe, kiwi, its not a girl who sings that part. The guy just sings like a girl.

Nevertheless a brilliant song. normally I don't like hip hop, but this song has feeling and deep lyrics. About our modern era, the forest-jungle has been replaced by a jungle of concrete.

General CommentIt's funny coz i feel the same way, i dont even like rap music generally but when i heard this song something just makes me like it, i guess the lyrics get me. It makes me think about life and how we got alot of screwed up things, but we're just trying to get by and live our lives.
