"The World On A String" as written by Michael Maida, Jeremy Taggart, Duncan Coutts, Steve Mazur and Bob Rock....
I see the world on a string
It's hanging from a wire
It gets tangled up and spun around
Like the truth inside a liar
Sometimes you wanna get high
And sometimes you run and hide
'Cause it eats you up and spits you out
It swallows you alive

[Chorus]
When I'm down on my knees
And it hurts to believe (I'm bleeding)
You'll bring me back to life
When there's no songs to sing
And no flowers to bring (no feeling)
And you'll bring me back to life
And you'll bring me back to life

I see the world on a beach
It's sinking in the sand
Oh it tries to suck you down with it
You better get out while you can
Sometimes you wanna scream out
And sometimes you just can't
'Cause your lips
Feel like they're glued together
And no one gives a damn

[Chorus]

This is the world on a string
There's no songs left to sing
Just sing
Sing

I see the good
I see the bad
The revolution
I see the happy
I see the sad
The absolution
I see hate
And I see love
When the world's on a string

I see the good
I see the bad
The revolution
I see the happy
I see the sad
The absolution
I see hate
And I see love
When the world's on a string

[Chorus]

When I'm down on my knees
And it hurts to believe (I'm bleeding)
You'll bring me back to life
When there's no songs to sing
And no flowers to bring (No feeling)
And you'll bring me back to life
And you'll bring me back to life
And you'll bring me back to life.

General CommentI love the bridge in this song. Hell, the bridges in all of the songs make the album for me.

General Commentim so happy Our Lady Peace is back. i listened to the whole album kinda off hand, but this specific song struck me.
its very simple and i love raine's voice...
though not as powerful as their older stuff. it seems llike the good old OLP has kinda lost its path in a world where music - especially rock - has transformed, or mutated into a different phase.

General Commenti agree completely with princess sparkle. ive been an olp fan for a very long time, and will always be, but i think they have lost some of their magic over the years. i still love them though (and am going to their concert wed!!!). once a fan always a fan. and i love this song, the world on a string, very good analogy of everything changing all the time and, as kurokupo perfectly put it, the world is full of bs. its about the one truth in the world being all the lies "you'll bring me back to life". i

General CommentI see the world on a beach
    It’s sinking in the sand
Oh it tries to suck you down with it
You better get out while you can
    Sometimes you wanna scream out
    And sometimes you just can’t
    Cause your lips
    They’re like they’re glued together
And no one gives a damn

This verse makes me laugh a little. True, our lips are kinda like glued together,AND NO ONE GIVES A DAMN. I found it funny from the word glued, but its so like us.

    and the chorus:
When I’m down on my knees
And it hurts to believe (I’m bleeding)
You’ll bring me back to life
When there’s no songs to sing
And no flowers to bring (No feeling)
And you’ll bring me back to life
And you’ll bring me back to life

    (I'm bleeding.)(No feeling)
ever noticed how these two go together? You're bleeding so deeply that you don't even notice the love people are giving at times, the world's so confusing, fulla bullshit, but we are living in it! So we have to get used to it!

General CommentNow I finnlay get the real meaning of this song.XD
And I too, have been a fan of OLP for a long time. And I always will be.But when this album came out,it sounded so different from thier other albums. My whole family(We are all fans of OLP XD), was like 'Whoa' when we heard it.But when I heard it,this became meh favorite song. When its playing i can like, sing it along. And even without any music or anything i can sing the entire song O_O.
Now I alos know why my sister got sick of this song...Of me listening to it all the time.XD

General CommentThis song, in particular, is very much different from most of OLPs other stuff. It's kind of like.... dance music? It makes you want to smile and bounce, but it's about the world sucking so much. Maybe the music clashes with the lyrics so much (although it still sounds cool) could mean that everything seems to be all nice and lite and everyone feels like dancing and smiling, but that's only because they're ignoring what is really being said... that the world sucks underneath it all.

    That's my thoughts.

General CommentThe intro to this song makes me laugh out loud. So unlike OLP.
    But, it's a great song.

General CommentYeah, pretty much the world is a messed up place....and sometimes you feel so helpless in it and its just gotten you so beat down

    Sometimes you wanna get high
And sometimes you run and hide

(anything you can do to cope)

    sometimes you wanna scream out
    And sometimes you just can’t
    Cause your lips
    They’re like they’re glued together
And no one gives a damn

    and in those moments...

"There’s no songs left to sing
    Just sing
    Sing"

(That line always makes me, literally, laugh out loud)

and even when you do realise how crappy the world is there will be someone to "bring you back to life" because there is someone out there who cares

and PS the lyrics are wrong.. it is "I see the good/ I see the bad/ the Revolution"
