"Dogs Were Barking" as written by Eliot Ferguson, Eugene Hutz, Oren Kaplan, Yuri Lemeshev, Sergey Ryabstev and Rea Mochiach....
Dogs were barking, guests were parking
And my wedding was about to start
Dogs were barking, monkeys clapping
Then I got up on table and I said:
I'll meet you 10:45 on the Broadway Canal
In a disco-radical-transglobal
Comanja cooking up the original mixtura
S ulitzy do ulitzy the brilliant bassura
Mama---Diaspora!!!
Papa v Gogol Bordello!!!
Energija probuzdenija I ja!!!
Dogs were barking, monkeys clapping
Bears were dancing and girls were cutting loose
Cops were lurking, kids were snarkling
Then her father came up to me and said:
Vi bivali kogda nibud na vistavke sobak?
She was a 5-45, nashe delo tabak...
Da ja zge starij dobrij Opta-Hotza-Htzulo-Dzigit!
Govorjat prosto blolnoi, tak nichego zge ne bilit!
Mama---Diaspora!!!
Papa v Gogol Bordello!!!
Energija probuzdenija I ja!!!
Remember things that are eternal
Eternal things...you forgot those things
Nelzja ponjat, nelzja izmerit,
Tolko prostzat, I tolko vvis!
To make it all even more crooked
Is impossibility of a suicide
You pull the trigger, yet you are still standing
Just somewhere else, but with same dick in your hand

now dub it tovarisch, like tovarisch would

General Commentthat's amusing that these lines

    nasha mama - diaspora,
    nash papa v gogol bordello
    (our mum is our diaspora,
our dad is in gogol bordello)

is the changed version of the lines from one well-known song of russian rock-band "kino" that was very famous in the 80s
    but there were these lines:

    mama - anarchiya,
    papa - stakan portveina

    (our mum is anarchy,
our dad is a glass of wine)-which is also very close to GB

    General CommentEnergija probuzdenija i ja!!!
    Energy of awakening and me!!!

Vi bivali kogda nibud na vistavke sobak?
have you ever been at a dog show?

    nashe delo tabak...
we have real problems (a cliche from Russian which
have nothing to do with "tabak" - tobacco)

Da ja zge starij dobrij Opta-Hotza-Htzulo-Dzigit!
But I am good old ...

govorjat prosto bolnoi, ta nichego zhe ne bolit!
Somebody said I am sick but I really have no pain
(in Russian bolet' (be sick) and bol' (pain) have the same root)

    Nelzja ponjat, nelzja izmerit,
    tolko brasat', i tolko vvis!...

One cannot understand, one cannot change
one can only throw and only up high!

    Dogs were barking.

my views on it as a story:
    1st stanza
we open on a wedding. he tells us to meet him some were else for an after party

    2nd stanza
this one is a bit fuzzy. I feel that he describes our mother and our father to give us a sense of the tradition and energy involved in the ceremony.
The bride's father approaches and says have you ever been to a dog show. I imagine dog shows as boring old person activities compared to the energy and more primal might of barking dogs. This hits the subject as proof he is aging and moving to a part of his life he is afraid to enter.

    3rd stanza
Hutz re-establishes the necessity of tradition begins talking about eternal things showing a plunge in to the subject's mind.

    4th stanza
the subject is thinking more deeply, now on to the nature of suiside and potentialy reinarnation "You pull the trigger, yet you are still standing...just somewhere else, but with same dick in your hand."

    5th stanza
the mother disrupts the subject from his thought for a dance (she said "...and my dancing was about to start")

    6th stanza
i read this as the mother in law giving him permission to run away
he finds a crazy dancer and ends up with her

    7th stanza
I read this as the subject wandering aimlessly and drunkenly in the city.

    8th stanza
the mother finds the subject again while he is once again deep in thought.
resolution of the situation is left to the audience.
