Another crowded dance floor
Another empty glass
Another failed hello
It’s your alibi
Another splendid lie
It’s the bruises that you can’t show

It’s another lonely sunset
Another starless sky
The nervousness inside
It’s the final kiss from a lover’s fist
It’s the reason why you can’t cry

It's a violent reaction
The mixtape in your heart
The answer you should know
How we complicate, a simple mistake
It’s the face you make when I go

And we tried to change
The city noise made us strange
So we plugged our ears and learned to fight
We set the stage but we could not engage so we cut all ties by candlelight
Change, change, change

Another deep depression
The calm before the storm
The shaking in your head
How you sacrificed – How you paid the price
All the words you wish you had said

It’s the rawest of emotions
Drinking to forget- names written in the snow
It’s the anxious feel- purging your last meal
It’s the secret that you can’t know

And we tried to change
The city noise made us strange
So we plugged our ears and learned to fight
We set the stage but we could not engage so we cut all ties by candlelight
Change, Change, Change

The first time hearing this song, I was all "This sounds so different from Jack Off Jill -sigh-". But Scarling isn't supposed to sound like a Jack Off Jill replica. And I've grown to love the new sound just as much as the old.

Hmmm I think this song is about how people in a big city go clubbing, hitting the hot spots in hopes of picking someone up who could end up being totally wrong for them. Or it could just be about nightlife in a big city in general and how people are viewed as cosmopolitan.

I haven't listened to Jack Off Jill yet...I heard about Scarling over the Internet and City Noise completely blew me away, I ordered So Long Scarecrow off Amazon and it's supposed to come in sometime next week, I can't wait...

Anyway, I think this song is kind of about how somebody can move to a different place or city and that new lifestyle can change their personality completely. As KillMeFaster said, they go out clubbing a lot, and they probably drink a lot too. Specifically in the lyric "purging your last meal" refers to bulimia, and how superficial the general public can be.

And, I've always thought the "city noise" was a metaphor for people gossiping, maybe?

Great song. I can't WAIT until So Long Scarecrow gets here.

I may be wrong on this, but I THINK it's about the break up of jack of jill (the end)..in Jessicka's eyes... and Scarling (the beginning)..the birth of something new. In my opinion 'City Noise' is the problems/chaos that they may have experienced and even created on their own while touring as a band.

'And we tried to change The city noise made us strange So we plugged our ears and learned to fight We set the stage but we could not engage so we cut all ties by candlelight Change, Change, Change'

    Translation...

They tried to 'Change'. Possibly their sound..possibly attitude...music..whatever. Maybe personallity. After a bit they found out that the change just wasn't working for them as a band...it created 'city noise'. Despite issues they tried to stay together, they set the stage..they could not engage, so they cut all ties by candle light ;).

Change change change = the beggining of Scarling.

like most songs i think this refers a lot to destructive relationships but it goes beyond that also. i do agree with roachofdiscord that it could be about the break up of jack off jills. and how the bands break up or whatever really fucked jessicka up

'It’s another lonely sunset Another starless sky The nervousness inside It’s the final kiss from a lover’s fist It’s the reason why you can’t cry'

i think this might refer to jessicka feeling alienated and hurt about joj and ultimately forming scarling.

this song is really angsty but there's some kind of hope in it which of course makes it great. =]]

great song, great lyrics. i love it.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
