"Just for Now" as written by and Imogen Jennifer Heap....
Just for now
Just for now
Just for now
Just for now
Just for now
Just for now

It's that time of year
Leave all our hopelessness's aside
If just for a little while
Just stop right here
I know we've followed a bumpy ride.
I'm sinking along your side

How did you know?
It's what I always wanted
Could never have too many of these
Well you, quit kicking me under the table
I'm trying; will somebody make her shut up about it?
Can we settle down please?

It's that time of year
Leave all our hopelessness's aside
If just for a little while
Just stop right here
I know we've followed a bumpy ride.
I'm sinking along your side

Lie down
Deep breaths
Count to ten
Nod your head

I think something is burning
Now you've ruined the whole thing
Might fool the smoke alarm
Whoever put on this music?
Better quick sharp remove it
Pour me another
Oh, don't wag your finger at me

It's that time of year
Leave all our hopelessness's aside
If just for a little while
Just stop right here
I know we've followed a bumpy ride.
I'm sinking along your side

Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here
Get me outta here

Just for now
Just for now.

General Comment(There are a few corrections in the following lyrics.)

    It's that time of year
    Leave all our hopelessness’s aside
If just for now, it's just for a little while
    Dear, stop right here
    I know we've followed a bumpy ride.
    I’m secretly on your side

She wants to be able to let go of the problems her family's had. The holidays can be hectic; she just wants to keep things civil.

    How did you know?
    It's what I always wanted
Could never have had too many of these
Will you quit kicking me under the table?
I'm trying, Will somebody make her shut up about it?
    Can we settle down please?

Once again, with the remaining civil. She's just trying to be nice, but obviously her family begins to get on her nerves.

    Bite tongue
    Deep breaths
    Count to ten
    Nod your head

Still making an effort to not lose it completely.

    I think something is burning
Now you've ruined the whole thing
    Might fool the smoke alarm
    Whoever put on this music?
    Better quick sharp remove it
    Pour me another
Oh, don't wag your finger at me

Here, you can see her losing hope...snapping at people, being angry. She just wants out.

    Get me outta here (x13)
    Just for now
    Just for now

See? She explicitly says she wants out. "Just for now" seems more like reassurance that it'll all be over soon than encouragement to get along with her family by the end of the song.
Love this song. She's got a gorgeous voice. It's rare that you'll find personality in electronica, but Imogen manages. You have to respect that. She's very listenable.

General Commentit's absolutly about a family gattering. and imogean just does what she's so good at: creates a realistic scenary mixing lyrics and melody, building an image of the members of our own family in situations we can feel bounded to. therefor all this diferent interpertations posted here, i guess. btw, the live version at studio 11 103.1fm is great, if nothing else, by the simple fact that she makes a whole song using only vocal and clapping hands :)

General CommentI love this song! Hmm one change, I'd say it might be "Whoever put on this music/Better quick sharp remove it", maybe! As in the phrase, 'quick sharp'. Annyway, otherwise, all good!

General CommentThis sounds like a family that attempts to put all the problems of their life aside during the holidays to celibrate being together.

    "It's what I always wanted
Could never have had too many of these"

Even though she doesn't like it she accepts it semi-gracefully

"Well I, quit kicking me under the table
I'm trying; will somebody make her shut up about it?
    Can we settle down please?"

I'd say that's definately a family with kids.

At the end though there is an overall sense of dread and foreboding. Although the family has put aside it's hopelessness they all know it will return soon enough so at the end you hear

    "Get me outta here (x13)"

    General CommentShe talks about:

    "How did you know?
    It's what I always wanted
Could never have had too many of these"

This could be a holiday with the family. I think a christmas get together with a family. There are always disagreements between family, but it is saying "It's that time of year
    Leave all our hopelessness’s aside"

We all are irritated with our families, but it is the holiday that brings us together.

General CommentOh, and it's "muffle the smoke alarm," instead of "might fool".

General Commentyet another correction... "tears stop here" "i know we've all had a bumpy ride" i think it's that all too familiar "gotta love them because they're family" feeling. it's apparent she's not enjoying herself yet she repeats "i'm secretly on your side" god only knows how much i can't stand to be around my sister...but she's family, so naturally i love her no matter what. :-)
