Bigfoot step over me
Spare me from embarassing defeat
Numb to the thought existing
I'd be estatic
Would the find complete the puzzle for me
I could be fiction from the entry
The entry

What do you think you know
I know its ok now
Lay down more stupid rules
That only I apply to

I'm made for medusa
But hung up on how it feels to be a ceramic
And now you know

If I call it how I see it
I may never call it
Your teeth they talk and talk
And I never follow
If you repeat what you here
You wont be repeating, be repeating, be repeating
Anything to anyone

I'm mad for medusa
But hung up on how it feels to be a ceramic
And now you know

Amelia I may never meet you
Maybe the ocean's where you rest
Bermuda I may never see you
Just because no one's coming back
Along came a spider
That crawled inside her
Now I think I'm sick for christian's sake
But frozen with fear of god the earthquake
And now you know

I'm mad for medusa
But hung up on how it feels to be a ceramic
And now you know

    My Interpretation

"But hung up on how it feels to be a ceramic" could these refer to loving the feeling of being stoned? cause that would make sense to me

Heres a shot in the dark. I think maybe he's talking about this girl he likes or is "Mad for" that makes him feel like he's been frozen by her (like Medusas gaze, hence making her Medusa). The "hung up on how it feels to be a ceramic" attests to this idea of being turned to stone/ceramic by her gaze. I don't really know, cause there's still a lot of stuff I'm not addressing. Someone else do it.

What does this even mean? Iosephus, that's as far as I get, too... the ceramic thing does make sense a little w/ the whole Medusa idea. But yeah...the whole decoding thing...I'll leave it to someone else on this song because reading those lyrics out just confuses me.

alright. this song is actually more straightforward than you are making it out to be. while visiting a friend at Illinois State in Normal ( where TJV was founded) i found the answer in bloomington....Medusa's Adult World. there ya go. the song is about an adult bookstore. "big foot step over me" (monkey painted on building) spare me from embarassing defeat ( its embarassing to look at porn?) I'm made for medusa But hung up on how it feels to be a ceramic And now you know (there are statues at medusa) Amelia I may never meet you Maybe the ocean's where you rest (Amellia is his fantasy girl from something he found at medusa's)Along came a spider That crawled inside her Now I think I'm sick for christian's sake But frozen with fear of god the earthquake And now you know(STD's????) anyways i cant really decode it, but its about an adult bookstore in bloomington, end of story.

i seriously thought the lyrics were "mad for medusa"... not made for medusa... considering the song is titled "mad for medusa" but you know i guess whatever lol

that book store thing is actually pretty funny... i think a lot of times we make lyrics out to be bigger than they actually are... but i mean lyrics speak differently to each different person, and thats what makes music so wonderful... i mean, what i thought the song meant, and finding out that it was written about a porn shop basically.. ha lol

    dewthelew, great analysis.

Amelia is not actually fiction though.

It's an ex girlfriend of the lead singers.

First of all, it's not about an adult bookstore. While there is a place in Bloomington called Medusa's, that is completely and utterly false. Somebody with too much time on their hands made that shit up. Sorry to burst your bubble. Quoting my brother asa, "it is about nothing really dude"

    and there you have it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
