Locals read me
Like I'm not supposed to be where I should be
But I creep
To the backbone of my being

Raise your flags but, keep your distance
Steal and skin go get your reasons
Raise your flags but keep your distance
Steal and skin

I feel right at home in my town
Happy day
And step out into the freezing morning air

Feels good to know that everyone here
Feels good to know that everyone waves by habit
But it makes my day by habit
But it makes my day by

I thought I'd be
Right where i wanted to be
So what now
I crashed the course
Could I get back on it?

Steal to live and that's my reason
Steal to live

I feel right at home in my town
Happy day
And step out into the scorching daylight there

Feels good to know that everyone here
Feels good to know that everyone waves by habit
But it makes my day by habit
But it makes my day by

Now I lay down and stare
Watch my walls
Find the friendly faces
Anyone I know

I feel out of place in my old town
Just a day
Another day

Feels strange to know that everyone here
Feels strange to know that everyone waves by habit
Just another day by habit
Just another day by

Feels strange to know that everyone here
Feels strange to know that everyone waves by habit
Just another day by habit
Just another day by

Good Song. Probably About How It Feels Good To Be In Familiar Places, See Familiar Face And All That Jazz, But Slowly He Realizes He Doesn't Fit And He's Growing Tired Of The Monotony Of Evey Day And It All Seems Fake And Wrong. Another Song TO Wanna Make You Leave Your Town Behind

Great song, every time it plays in MVP 06 it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

a song about where you belong. touring takes you lots of places, some where the locals' welcome is less than warm ("Locals read me Like I'm not supposed to be where I should be" ..... "raise your flags but keep your distance"). The band returns home, to "the backbone of [their] being" only to discover they don't really fit in there either.

    Another thing.......

the fact that everyone at home waves goes from being "good" to "strange"......is it because the act has lost its meaning in routine? Has the caring gone out of it? Maybe that part is about being sick of being taken for granted.

Aww, I love this song. The Junior Varsity is fantastic! I think they're really going somewhere.

This is probably my favorite song by them. I think it's really teen angsty and I can relate. Like, everyone waves politely from their front porch, but when they go inside they feel differently about you. It's kind of like my neighborhood, kind of like the midwest (in my opinion)

to me this song is like my home town, i think you all have hit a major idea with this song, but combining them together is exactly what its about, except to me it means he is totally compfortable in his town with the people he used to know, and the people that knew of him for one reason or another, but by "And step out into the freezing morning air" then changing it to the "scorching daylight there" means in the freezing air is where he grew up, but moved on, and by scorching daylight there, means hes in a new town, nowbody knows his name, hes the new guy, loved or hated, thats the 2 options people have to have about you, so its a new beginning, thus making my point about him being compfortable in his town, but now hes got a new town, and hes getting compfortable, i feel that way about this song because i feel this way in real life, let me know what you think!

i really like this song, i think its about feeling out of place in the town where you grew up, like you dont fit in. maybe that everyone was fake, but somehow it made things okay being able to count on the fact that things are always going to be the same.

I feel right at home in my town Happy day And step out into the freezing morning air

    and

I feel right at home in my town Happy day And step out into the scorching daylight there

are about the weather in illinois, where the bands from. how it sucks...

I think I can relate to this, now that I'm at college and have changed residences. I see now what people mean when they say that everything changes when you go to college. Before I left, my hometown was such a place of solace and home that I could never imagine being anywhere else. Now everytime I visit, it just seems fake and plastic. It's not the town I remember. It's a strange feeling, but a very real one. I think this song could be about a similar experience, of going back home to a sense of dissapointment.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
