"Burn This City" as written by William Pugh, Joseph Pepper, Ryan Roberts, Kevin Sanders and Nicolas Hudson....
And stay up all night and sleep all day,
Ans we were smart kids with too much to say.
We were so, so sure that they were missing out,
They're the ones missing out, and
We were elemental, took down to bear essentials,
Who knew we'd get so far?

Cause our days were numbered by nights on too many rooftops.
They said we'd burn so bright.
We burn this city and go.

Play it again, oh.
There's no such thing (no there's never too much).
And we were so, so sure, oh we never had a doubt.
Now were counting days to getting out.

We were elemental, took down to bear essentials.
Who knew we'd get so far?

Cause our days were numbered by nights on too many rooftops.
They said we're wasting our lives,
Oh at least we know, that if we die, we lived with passion.
They said we'd burn so bright.
We burn this city and go.

Pack our bags and get away, they're catching on to us. [Repeat x2]
Pack our bags and get away, they're catching on to us. [Repeat x2]

Cause our days were numbered by nights on too many rooftops.
They said we're wasting our lives,
Oh at least we know, that if we die, we lived with passion.
They said we'd burn so bright.
We burn this city, and go.

General CommentI used to be very heavy into drugs, and this song is what my life used to be.....so many nights on so many rooftops (and in the woods, pools, back yards etc) living it up. Just going totally nuts, blowing lines like a rockstar...I realized I numbered my days...But at least, as they say, I lived with passion. And that, friends, is what this song means to me.

General CommentThis song is really easy to interpret
first off, one must take into consideration that Cartel is a Christian based band.
    the first verse alone gives witness to this song being about spreading the word of God;

    "Smart kids with too much
    to say"
    - God grants wisdom to those who seek it.

"And we were so, so sure
    that they were missing out,
    They're the ones who were
    missing out"
    - Refering to those who Do Not seek the truth.

    "we were elemental, soaked
    down to bare essentials"
    - The people who are involved in the body of Christ (Authentic Christians) are all elemental, playing small roles. However, each relys on the other, makeing every one of them essential.

"Who knew we'd get so far?"
    - Those who do not seek the The truth, or follow christ would see christians as not getting very far seeing as in how they don't believe there is a God. But little do they know...

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chorus is my favorite part and is the easiest to interpret!!

    "Our days are numbered by
    nights on too many rooftops"
    - True, many people hold the "You only live onece so have fun" philosophy, However Christians hold the "You only live once, so live Right" philosophy.. afterall "Our days are numbered". you see, Christians know and understand that in the end days, all humanity will be individually judged for the lives they lived while on earth. Jesus said "Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven." and he also said "What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight. What is whispered in your ear, shout from the rooftops." So take those 2 quotes into consideration when listening to the first part of the chorus; Jesus whats us to speak of his name and his salvation so vastly without shame to everyone as though we are shouting in from the rooftops.

And burning Bright simply means being a chrsitian; in a crowd of people, it sheould be incredibly evident of the ones who are christian based on the things they say and do... kind of like a light shineing in a dark room. Christians are supposed to be bright lights in a dark world so much so that they make impacts on their communities, or in metaphorical terms, "burn this city".

    General CommentCorrected lyrics.
staying up all night and sleep all day
we were smart kids with too much to say
    and so, so sure
    that they were missing out
(they're the ones who were missing out)

    we were elemental
    talked down to bare essentials
who knew we'd get so far?

    'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we’d burn so bright
we’d burn this city and go

    play it again
(our games of love and lust)
    and, there's no such thing
    (no, there's never too much)
and we were so, so sure
no, we never had a doubt
we're counting down the days to getting out, and

    we were elemental
    talked down to bare essentials
who knew we'd get so far?
(who knew we’d get so far?)

    'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we're wasting our lives
but, oh, at least we know that if we die
    we lived with passion
they said we’d burn so bright
we’d burn this city and go

pack our bags and get away
they're catching on to us (4x)

    'cause our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we're wasting our lives
but, oh, at least we know that if we die
    we lived with passion
they said we’d burn so bright
we’d burn this city and go

    our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops
they said we're wasting our lives
but, oh, at least we know that if we die
    we lived with passion
they said we'd burn so bright

    our days were numbered
by nights on too many rooftops,
they said we're wasting our lives
but, oh, at least we know that if we die
    we lived with passion
they said we’d burn so bright
