"I Hear the Bells" as written by and Dan Wilson Mike Doughty....
I hear the bells
Down in the canyon, it's
Snow in New York
Some blue December, I'm
Gone to the moon
Without you, girl, and I'm
Calling to you
Throughout the world and well I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and

I hear the bells
They are like emeralds, and
Glints in the night
Commas and ampersands
Your moony face
So inaccessible
Your inner mind
So inexpressible

I'm seeking girls
In sales and marketing
Let's go make out
Up in the balcony
Your business dress
So businesslike and I'm
Tossing the blouse
Over a chairback and

You snooze, you lose
Well I have snost and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
So fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting

    General CommentI think he says
    "Gone to the moon
    About you, girl...."
But officially, the lyrics are listed as above.

I love the lines: "You snooze, you lose/Well I have snost and lost"!
I love this song. So good to hear the song on Veronica Mars, again, last week.

General Commentyes it's "About you, girl" in the version im listening to... OK here is what i think it is about- he's leaving a girl that he's sick of waiting on and he's just going out trying to screw any girl he can find because he wants to get out there after he's been with this girl for so long and he's bored or whatever from the girl and he can "hear the bells" because he knows he's getting out of what he didn't want to be in and pretty much starting fresh.

General CommentSO. No one has thought of maybe going to Mike Doughty's own website and looking at the lyics he himself put up? XD

    The line is:
    "...Gone to the moon
    Without you, girl, and I'm
    Calling to you..."

OFFICIALLY. Unless you want to debate about it with the songwriter himself. lawl.

General Commentthis song is awesome in so many ways: the writing is gripping and dramatic and the melody perfect for Doughty's voice. Very Good. ****

General Commentthe lyrics are obviously "going to the moon, about to go and i'm calling to you..."

anyhoo... to me this song seems to be him realising that the girl impossible to understand and 'obtain'. "you're moony face, so inaccesible". but he's hooked on her so he's trying to forget her by sleeping with other girls that are better for him.
the bells are joyful and triumphant cause he's going back to the girl he loves. he "snost and lost", but he'll slug it out. even though he's sick of waiting.

loved this song in veronica mars. very appropriate.
