"The Sound of the Crowd" as written by Ian Burden and Philip Oakey....
Put your hand in a party wave
Pass around
Make a shroud pulling combs through a backwash frame
Find the copies in a carbon mount
Pass around
Stroke a pocket with a print of a laughing sound

Get around town, get around town
Where the people look good
Where the music is loud
Get around town
No need to stand proud
Add your voice to the sound of the crowd

The shades from a pencil peer
Pass around
A fold in an eyelid brushed with fear
The lines on a compact guide
Pass around
A hat with alignment worn inside

Get in line now, get in line now
Stay in time with the rhythm and rhyme
Get around town, get around town
Where the people look good
Where the music is loud
Get around town
No need to stand proud
Add your voice to the sound of the crowd

General CommentThe way they say, "Add your voice to the sound of the crowd," seems to imply that the song is indeed cynical.

General CommentI'm not sure if the speaker is talking seriously or in a cynical way.

    Nice enough song.

General CommentThis is a great New Wave song! Very trippy and I think that the song is just about some friends going joyriding drunk or stoned. I think that they are driving around because I can hear tires screaming as they scream.

    General CommentIt's "parting wave."

Having said that, I think the song is about a group of friends in the 80's, going out on the town and checking out all the beautiful people.
    Where the people look good
    where the music is loud.
