driving in from the edge of town. ice cold winter sun is going down. and im starting just the way i used to through that dirty all night restaurant window. just thinkin about the things i wish i could give up and the things that wont let me go. but i know im gonna be alright. my mind wont focus. i take an out of the way drive in and around the north side of town where the smoke from hells exhaust pipe lingers above the cheap rent in the dark night. hours pass through me. im tired of wasting time. half hour later towards the downtown lights. i dont know what im still doing here. the coliseum blue room has been empty for a long time. you have to push these kind of thoughts right out of your mind...and i try. something has been wasted. at least that's what it seems. all the bars have long closed down. theres no one but me in the streets of my hometown. i've already said too much. im all lovesick for endless broken white lines and i say to all the young wild ones...for you...yeah on your way up..the world isnt against you, my dear, it just doesn't care.

i like this song, it has a kind of harrowing sound, like walking the streets at night with nowhere to go. and the final line is great too.

General Commentdriving in from the edge of town.
ice cold winter sun is going down.

and im starting just the way i used to through that dirty all night restaurant window. - cecil's cafe, a restaurant next to git-n-go gas station. it's open all night for truckers to come through.

just thinkin about the things i wish i could give up and the things that wont let me go. - substance abuse problems

but i know im gonna be alright. - and dealing with them

my mind wont focus. i take an out of the way drive in and around the north side of town - industrial part of m'town

where the smoke from hells exhaust pipe lingers above - swift (meat packing plant, there is a smell that comes from the burnt pig's hair, and it is familiar to all who live in town)

the cheap rent in the dark night. - Tallcorn Towers, Slum apartment building, that is also the tallest building in town. Seriously, it's bigger than the court house.)

hours pass through me. im tired of wasting time. - The feeling you get after driving around for hours in this town.

half hour later towards the downtown lights. - The downtown area is well lit by street lamps, garnished with flags of local businesses.

i dont know what im still doing here. - feeling like you've done nothing, cause you live in BFE.
the coliseum blue room has been empty for a long time. - Coliseum used to host rock shows, but it's ran by the city, and they were too strict on max. occupation, and moshing. You know you can't stop a pit from happening, so the inevitable happened, and the city stopped having shows there.

you have to push these kind of thoughts right out of your mind...and i try. something has been wasted. at least that's what it seems.
all the bars have long closed down. - Probably an homage to all the bars that have come, gone, and are still standing. (Past time, Carolina inn, JD's, etc.)

theres no one but me in the streets of my hometown. - When you're walking around town in the middle of the night, it realy feels like you're the only one here.

i've already said too much. im all lovesick for endless broken white lines - obv. cocaine ref.

and i say to all the young wild ones...for you...yeah on your way up..the world isnt against you, my dear, it just doesn't care. - some parting words of wisdom

That is my personal insight into the lyrics of this song. I've always felt that the aforementioned references in it pertained to the landmarks in this town that i've stated here. I'm not saying i'm 100% right on anything, but as a resident of the town for 20 years...these are my best guesses at what they could be. Nothing else seems logical for the lyrics they used to not outright name the places in question.

General CommentI think the line "im all lovesick for endless broken white lines" isn't refering to cocaine, but rather being on the road for tour and out of his town. The broken white lines are the lines on the road itself.
