"She's My Kind of Rain" as written by and Robin Lerner Tommy Lee James....
She's my kind of rain
Like love in a drunken sky
She's confetti falling down all night
She sits quietly there
Black water in a jar Says baby why you trembling like you are

So I wait
And I try
I confess like a child

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

She's the sunset's shadow
She's like Rembrandt's light
She's the history that's made at night
She's my lost companion
She's my dreamin' tree
Together in this brief eternity

Summer days
Winter snow
She's all things to behold

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

So I wait
And I try
I confess all my crimes

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

She's my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She's my kind of rain

She's my kind of rain
Ohhhhh rain on me
She's my kind of rain

General CommentI think its very romantic, one of my faves in fact... rain is a symbol of purification and a new beginning, and so maybe she's this guy's new reason and he's straightening himself out ("I confess all my crimes")... but she's not all over him to get him to change; "she sits quietly there like water in a jar" to me is saying that she's changing him in a quiet, non-pushy way just by being there... and also water in a jar is the only way you can gather rain into something solid or that you can hold. This song isn't about flattering the woman, it's about acknowledging all that she's done for him and everything she means to him.

General CommentI think this song is obviously about romance, about the way he feels about someone he loves, but I think the imagery is so interesting. She’s my kind of rain. Rain is, of course, traditionally seen as being romantic etc etc, but for a woman to be compared to rain isn’t necessarily the most romantic and kindly of images. Surely something brighter and more classically beautiful like the sun would be a more flattering metaphor? But no, he chooses rain. Rain which brings complications, difficulty, frustrations, and eventually washes everything away and makes it pure again.
So I guess this is what she does for him. She makes things complicated and difficult and frustrating, but in the end he needs her to make him feel pure and alive again. There is always going to be rain in a life, and what I love about this song is he is accepting that, and saying if there’s going to be rain, complications and a way to be forgiven, she’s the kind of complication and forgiveness he wants.
Subtle, understated, he’s not singing on and on about how madly in love he is and how she makes him feel; he simply leaves it to the metaphors to express his feelings. She’s my kind of rain. She’s natural, unavoidable, constant, beautiful but almost poignant at the same time. The metaphor itself almost seems inadequate when he states “Summer days, winter snow, she’s all things to behold...”, like he’s almost not satisfied that what he is saying in the chorus does her justice, but when he returns to it, it is almost a surrender, as if rain is the only thing that makes sense for him to compare her to. This sense of dissatisfaction with himself is also echoed in lines such as “So I wait, and I try, I confess like a child...” showing himself to be helpless and lost; unable to do anything but confess all his crimes to her, and let her wash him clean again.
I think this song is one of the most beautiful, romantic songs in the world; partly because I think it’s realistic, and yet shows the perfection in the reality. Relationships are never going to be completely perfect, they’re never going to last for an eternity, they’re never even going to always go exactly the way you wanted/the way you planned; but I think partly what he’s saying in this song is that we have to make the most of the love we find. Even if, in love, we find ourselves in a downpour of pain and loss and confusion, appreciate it. Accept it. Take joy in it. Because we wouldn’t have it any other way.

General Comment... and of course, rain is always a romantic metaphor. Make our with somebody you care about in a rainstorm and you'll get it.

General CommentWhat exactly does this song mean?? If it was about me, and I was described as I "sit like water in a jar," I would not be too happy. This song is trying to be romantic, but I cannot see the romance at all. Can anyone else??

General CommentI don't know why, but I get a sort of Dave Matthews vibe off this song. It might be the similiar lyrics: Dreaming Tree, Summer days, winter snows, Rain, ect. but I always think of Dave Matthews when I hear this song.

General CommentIt's a pretty romantic song. It's not romantic in a conventional way - Like it's not coming right out and saying "I love you", but in a very sutble, sweet way.

General CommentThe romance of the water analogy is relatively clear. The point of it is a comparison to the woman he loves as rain. There are many kinds of rain; a rough, pounding thunderstorm, feather-light, barely-felt drizzle, a cold rain mixed with ice, warm rain against a sunny sky... the kinds of rain are practically endless, and people all like their own kind.

    And she is his.
