"The Car Song" as written by and Henry James Angus....
THE CAR SONG
[HARRY]

The weekend is the weekend
And it’s sunny in the park
I’ll stay here with my beer and fish and chips till it gets dark
I’ve got a lot of homework
But homework he can wait
I never start my homework till its already too late
My parents say think about your future and my teachers say the same
But it’s hard
When there’s a basketball game in the park
It’s 1998
And everybody’s saying:
“Harry, you’re going to be a lawyer some day…”

It’s Monday bloody Monday
And there’s two things I forgot
I forgot to do my homework
And I’ve only got one sock
I’m halfway through a test
But I just can’t concentrate
I’m sitting next to Fontaine
I want to ask her on a date
I really want to start a conversation
But each time she walks past
I start choking on my pencil
And fall flat on my ass
I need to concentrate
I have to get this grade
Or I might fail to be a lawyer someday

BRIDGE
But just right now
Can’ think of anything better to do
Than just sit down at the piano and a write this tune
And maybe later
Maybe later in the afternoon
I’ll sit back and relax
And think of all the things I’m going to do…

CHORUS
Someday…
I’ll buy an old car
Someday…
I’ll get that car to start
Someday…
I’ll learn how to drive too
And then Someday…
Imagine all the things I could do.

(That was 1998 now
Bring it forward to the present day now
Cause some things have changed
but some things never change)

The weekend is the weekend
And it’s sunny in the park
I’ll stay here with my beer and fish ‘n’ chips till it gets dark
I just saw Peter Parsons
Who used to be in my class
I always gave him wedgies cause I thought he worked too hard
He said, “Harry, life is great –
I feel so happy these days –
I’m a litigation lawyer –
So I got it made
I’m going out with Fontaine
Rememer her from tenth grade?
I drive a Porsche so I can’t complain…”

BRIDGE
Shit! And look at me can’t think of anything better to do
That just sit down at the piano and write this tune
And maybe later
Maybe later in the afternoon
I’ll sit back and relax and think of all the things I’m going to do…

CHORUS

General Commentthis song is kind of sad... it reminds me so much of me right now... IM in tenth grade! I actually think its about him regretting not doing all the things he was going to do...

General Commenthehe at the concert on sunday night harry walked on stage and my mates gone "its harry!" and i was like the car song guy? and what did they start playing?! THE CAR SONG!! so good! harry is awesome at singing.
this song is a bit of fun i reckon. also may be a slight message that if you do well in school you get what you want in the end! but would the empire do that??...

General CommentI don't know why barely anyone's commented on this song, I mean c'mon, it's awesome. Then again it's just my opinion.

Ha, nice experience you had there LTE. I would've killed to see Cat Empire in concert but I don't think my parents would've enjoyed the idea too much.

And yeah, I find Harry's voice extremely amusing.

General CommentJust a random fact. Fontaine is a real person :) My cousin went to school with harry and was telling me how hot Fontaine was :P So I suppose if she is true, this whole song is sort of true. I suppose just take advantage of opportunities when they are there and just do stuff while you can :P

General CommentI think its about how you know you should be doing homework but you cant bring yourself to do it, u just feel like lazing around instead (a feeling i can realy relate to)

so instead of doing stuff you end up just thinking about what you will do but you never end up doing it.

anywho great song - i can realy relate to it, it kind of keeps me going with all this bloody homework lol

    General Commenti love this song
i can completely relate to it, haha it fits me so well.
its basically harry describing his grade 10 procrastonation habits, and how the nerd in his class got to be a relaly rich laywer going out with the hottest chick in school, while hewas still bumming around.

well i mean he is now part of the awesomest band on the face of the earth, but not everybody gets that lucky. so kids, do your homework! or you'll end up like i probably will:P

General Commenti feel this song so much. i never did homework, too busy drinking beers and eating maccas, playing basketball and hanging out in a park while i was meant to be at school.

now all my mates are gonig to uni or something and im a bouncer. haha. i dont mind. im more than happy with my choices in life because as this song is saying, you can do everything the right way and get everything you want, or you can do everything you want, and have it anyway.

Do wat u love, and love wat u do.

General CommentIt's funny because it's true. For me, at least. I'm in year 10 right now, and I leave a trail of forgotten apparel and other such inventory behind me wherever I go. And then everyone's on my back about me being a lawyer.
I actually do want to be a lawyer though. So no more e-procrastination and back to the books.

General CommentIt seems I see this song a lot more positively than the rest of you. I love the energy and everything. The first part is him in school being told he should be working hard, and he thinks well maybe I should but it just doesn't seem that important, so he just goes off to the piano. And then it skips to present day and the nerd from class is going on about how fantastic his life is and Harry listens to him and sort of shrugs and goes off to the life he chose and think well, that all still doesn't really motivate me and I'll just play on the piano and move at my own pace and do what I want to do, because I'm the one that's free.
