It replays everyday and every time I yell the warning, “please turn back!” Sometimes, I can see you in the shadows; I can hear you in the echoes. I can feel you in the darkness. Sometimes, I can see you in the mirror. I can see you in my own eyes… and it scares me to think that somewhere… somehow… you’re not breathing, and I miss you. And I will never be alone when I still see you in my dreams… a minute for each mile, please turn back… a lifetime for each second of broken glass. Open, open, open up your eyes, and come back.

General CommentFrom reading the lyrics, I think this song is about a guy who lost someone he loved. He deeply regrets the loss because his/her death could have been avoided by a warning (given by the main character) that the person didn't heed.

He can remember what happened and still thinks about the person often which is explained by the quiter melodic part "Sometimes, I can see you...etc." and by the opening line "It replays everyday."

General Commentthe last part leads me to believe that the person did not die, but that they changed drastically and became somebody else. he wants the old person to open up their eyes and turn back into who they used to be. also, maybe the person who changed was somebody he was in a relationship with? honestly, i can only guess. ampere rules.

General CommentI took it that the d00d did die, just from the "you're not breathing". The "open up your eyes" could be literal. It kind of gives me the sense that the person is a kind of ghost.

General CommentI too agree with Voiceontape, but for some reason I think that he is talking about himself. That he let someone down and now regrets it. He can still see the person he was in his own eyes trying to come back.

P.S, this is my fave ampere song.

General Commentvoiceontape's view on it is interesting and works on many levels, but it could also be just a hopeless statement about someone who is literally dead, and, like Wait! says, the like "you're not breathing" does kind of suggest this. it's that phase of denial, that overwhelming feeling after a loss of wanting to bring that person back from the dead even though it's never going to happen. in a sense that's what the whole song is about, it's the person's death haunting the speaker and the speaker constantly wishing that they could have somehow stopped the events leading up to that person's death. beautiful song.
