"For The Restless" as written by and Mcrae....
She comes to me in dreams
A train wreck beauty queen
But I don't remember her
On a wall of white and blue

I wrote my name and thought of you
But you would not have known
Through a window of a car
A cigarette's a fallen star
A dream within a trail of sparks

And conversation turns to sleep
And I wait for you to speak
I'm waiting still

So for the restless
Not the peaceful sleeper
This song's for you
And for the faithless

Not the true believer
This song's for you

And I keep my secrets well
Move on and never tell
Some day they'll show
And you raised me to be cruel

You raised me like a bruise
I'm bleeding still

So for the restless
Not the peaceful sleeper
This song's for you
And for the faithless
Not the true believer
This song's for you

She comes to me in dreams
A train wreck beauty queen
Now I remember her
And everything you love will break
You're running out of things to make you

Feel alive
Alive
Alive
Alive

So for the restless
Not the peaceful sleeper
This song's for you
And for the faithless
Not the true believer

This song's for you
It's for you
It's for you
It's for you
It's just for you

General CommentI can't believe no one has commented on this song. It's probably my favourite Tom McRae song ever.

I don't really know the real meaning of the song word for word. But the jist of it, to me anyway, is that he's remembering a girl from his past and it was so long ago that he only remembers her in bits and peices. She may have been bad for him (trainwreck beauty queen) but he still dreams of her and how much he loved her. And now he's writing this song for her because she's faithless and restless.

I also get undertones of parental abuse. (You raised me like a bruise/I'm bleeding still) So I'm not sure if he's been beaten as a child and this girl is abusive too, and it's like this cyclical pattern.

I think the line about (you're running out of things to make you feel alive) is about how she's so destructive, maybe she drinks/does drugs, and they used to make her feel alive but she's just a trainwreck waiting to happen now.

General CommentThis is about missing a dysfunctional relationship. Even though she was a train wreck, things sputtered out like cigarette ashes, and she was emotionally abusive*, he misses her. She haunts his dreams, keeping him awake. If he missing this horrible relationship, how can there be a god?

*"Raised like a bruise" is a metaphor for being "turned into a bruise" probably mentally not literally. Nothing to do with child rearing.

General CommentI'm probably the only one that's gonna get this interpretation but to me, it's about sex.
Some frequent lust that wakes him up at night to sleep with him.
Read the lyrics and it comes off pretty easily.
