I know it's where we had to end,
The torch we doused, we lit again,
The flame of our reflection kept us
holding on from far away,
The dreams we had, the love we made,
The times we drank ourselves asleep to wake up to what we believe,
In what we have and what we need,
We'll wonder how good it can get,
(Much better than this)

I'm in the good life now,
I see myself,
Smiling bigger and wider than you ever knew how,
I'm in the good life now,
All by myself,
Getting better with every regret I allow,

I guess it's where the time begins,
When you get drunk and call again,
And I can't sit here listening to how bad you want to pave the way,
To drink yourself like Hemingway,
So you can make a memory from the things you never turned into,
In every girl that I'll go through,
They'll wonder how good it can get,
(Much better than this)

I'm in the good life now,
I see myself,
Smiling bigger and wider than you ever knew how,
I'm in the good life now,
All by myself,
Getting better with every regret I allow,

I hear from your friends your still alive,
I guess I wasted those wishes on nothing,

I'm in the good life now,
I see myself,
Smiling bigger and wider than you ever knew how,
I'm in the good life now,
All by myself,
Getting better with every regret I allow,

I'm in the good life now,
I see myself,
Smiling bigger and wider than you ever knew how,
I'm in the good life now,
All by myself,
Getting better with every regret I allow,

General CommentThis is a very good song and it has alot of meaning. I think it is based upon one of those high school sweetheart relationships. It is the end of high school and they are starting their own lives so they decide to call the relationship quits. He puts on a good face saying that he'll have a good life and he'll be something big. He also compares his relationships in the song. He compares his old relationship with his new relationships. "So you can make a memory from the things you never turned into, In every girl that I'll go through, They'll wonder how good it can get, (Much better than this)" Him getting with all these girls is really a way to suppress his loneliness from his lost lover.

General Commenti don't really agree with that interpretation.

I think the song is about leaving everyone, as much of the album is and I'll agree with you on that. But it sounds like a guy that is in an on/off relationship with a girl. And he keeps getting rid of her and being free finally and then she comes back and brings back all of those good memories along with too much baggage to handle.

and he's picturing himself without her. how happy he'll be.
