Friday, Monday, comes around

She's a girl with the weight of the world on her big brown eyes
She's a girl who's been talking to herself to apologize
She'll never do it again she promised
But then she hasn't been all that honest
Can she trust herself to be herself
Or is she talking to herself again?

Hey Friday what you gonna do now
When Monday comes around?
Hey Friday what you gonna do now
When Monday comes around?
When Monday comes around
Come around, when Monday comes around

Monday comes wondering where do you run to find a second start
Where do you go when you're broke and alone and Friday falls apart?
Yeah, yeah
All these questions are leaving her shaking
Can you be two girls in one?
Can your heart bend this much without breaking?
You know that you know and you can never have it both ways

Hey Friday what you gonna do now
When Monday comes around?
Hey Friday what you gonna do now
When Monday comes around?
When Monday comes around
Come around, when Monday comes around
Come around, when Monday comes around
Come around, when Monday comes around

Don't take it easy
Don't take it easy
Who says somebody's giving and taking, giving and taking
Everybody's taking away
(Monday comes around...)
Friday, Monday, comes around...

General CommentI think it's about a girl ( or someone in general ) who's been really stressed out about their life, such as school or family. She's been doing things that aren't exactly... good. Maybe it's drugs, maybe it's sex. She keeps saying to herself that she'll never do it again, but she still does it.

I think that Monday, in this song, could represent Jesus and a new and clean life or heart. Friday could represent her old life, one of sin and lies. "Hey Friday, what'cha gonna do when Monday comes around?" That could signify her accepting Christ and living through Him.

She wants a second start, but it's hard. There are so many unanswered questions about God, which is adding more stress to her. "Can your heart bend this much without breaking? / You know that you know and you can never have it both ways". She needs to just accept without needing to know the details. You can't have both the confidence and 'good things' from Christ if you're always doubting and questioning.

"Who says somebody's giving and taking, giving and taking / Everybody's taking away". The world's going against her preconceived notion that everything 'balances out', be it good and bad or stress and relaxation, by just taking and taking from her in her resources, happiness and willingness to 'go on'.

General CommentWow - this is the first comment for this song - probably because it's not on any Switchfoot album. It was supposed to be on "The Beautiful Letdown", but it didn't get the cut.

The reason why I absolutely loce this song is that its lyrics are so meaningful - like all other Switchfoot songs. When I first listened to it - I was feeling down, and everyone word in this song applied to me. It gave me the strength and motivation to keep pressing on. I thank Switchfoot very much for that.

General CommentYeah I like that Kow ^

Monday's that cleansing day at the beginning of the week where she starts over again with her life
but maybe by Friday she falls back into that rut "Friday falls apart" and "She'll never do it again she promised" but then she did by Friday..

General CommentI kind of look at it the opposite. I don't think it's about this but when I hear the words I think of Uni and school. Whenever Friday comes I get this sense of relief because it's the weekend and I have a couple of days rest where I don't have to do anything. But the point is Monday will come around and the stresses will just be greater if I don't make good use of the two days I've got. That's just what I think of. I can't explain it any more than that.
