So many people
So little caring
Why don't people care anymore?
I'm just a person
I'm no hypocrite
But there's a little saying that goes
Make love not war

So sing a little
Hum a little
Laugh a little
Cry a little
Love this land
Embrace it
And we all will be fine
Appreciate your life
And this land that we live in
And don't forget that one important line

Make love not war
(Uh-uh!)
Make love
Make love
Make love and not war

We'll climb the highest mountain
If that's what it takes
And all of you people
Who know that you are fakes
Take off your costumes
Take off your masks
And that you may find that life
Ain't too much of a task
Laugh when you want to
Cry when it hurts
That's why Mother Nature gave us
Soil and earth

So sing a little
Hum a little
Laugh a little
Cry a little
Love this land
Embrace it
And we all will be fine
Appreciate your life
And this land that we live in
And don't forget that one important line

Make love not war
(Uh-uh!)
Make love
Make love
Make love and not war

Well, some of you have problems
Don't think that you're alone
And I know that some of you
Put yourself upon the throne
Get down off that pedastal
Give someone else a chance
And if they've got that lovin' hard
They'll still save that last dance

So sing a little
Hum a little
Laugh a little
Cry a little
Love this land
Embrace it
And we all will be fine
Appreciate your life
And this land that we live in
And don't forget that one important line

Make love not war
(Uh-uh!)
Make love
Make love
Make love and not war

Well, some of you have romance
(Oh, how low)
And some of you do not
(Mm-hmm)
But brothers and sisters
(Ahh!)
This is all you've got
Oh, love the grass
(Uh-uh, and love the trees)
Feel our music
(And feel the breeze)
Remember in your daydreams
That there's always room to care
Livin' in this land
That you know we all should share

So sing a little
Hum a little
Laugh a little
Cry a little
Love this land
Embrace it
And we all will be fine
Appreciate your life
And this land that we live in
And don't forget that one important line

Make love not war
(Uh-uh!)
Make love
Make love
Make love and not war
(One more time!)

Make love not war
(Uh-uh!)
Make love
Make love
Make love and not war
Oh, yeah

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
