when will the weak shame the strong
and not collapse into our own arms
when will we raise our flags past half-mast
and not collapse into our own arms
but shame will keep us who we are

shame is the anchor tied around my ankle
shame keeps me low and close to the bottom
where i am the least
at the bottom

where pride has never been and never will
the swell of my chest
i stand on this
where pride has never been and never will
the swell of my chest
i call this brave
but how dare i call this love
and not bear my cross to the end

how can i call this love when all that i am
is because your love endures my back to it
your love endures my back to it
your love endures my back to it

General Comment"but how dare i call this love
and not bear my cross to the end"
i think that line is talking about the hypocrisy of the christian doctrine.

"your love endures my back to it"
that one line is packed with so much emotion, it makes this song what it is.
    another great song by ACB.

General CommentThe song is a great on humility. He takes the lesser liked viewpoint on humilty. It resembles many monastic writings, especially "The Ladder of Divine Ascent," in which St John Climacus says "Drink from the cup of humiliation like it is living water..."

dang i love the music and lyrics in this song....i guess no need to try and explain the meaning when "SkylinexBleedsxRed" nailed it, in my opinion.

General Comment1 Corinthians 1:27 - hence the song title One:Twenty Seven.

    interesting.

i see it, in the light of that bible verse:

"...God chose the weak things of this world to shame the strong"

I think it's a call to Christians to be the people God called them to be. And not to be so ashamed of who we are and what we believe. Because shame cripples. It does indeed keep you:

"low and close to the bottom"

I also see a warning not to say you love God, unless you are bearing your cross. All those out there who are followers of Christ, understand this. And unfortunately I find myself in a posiiton of hypocrosy of not being man enough to do this at times. Yet as the song says:

"all that i am, is becasue Your love endures my back to it"

Christ endures our unfaithfulness. Our willingness to whore ourselves out to other god's and our flirtatious attitudes to sin.

General CommentSick. Very good stuff. I like how they make direct references to the Bible. You can't go wrong with that. I like how poetic it is, not quite as melodic as some other stuff out there, but they get their point across. "All that I am is because YOur love endures my back to it". Good stuff.

General CommentI think that this song is about God(Obviously), and how he is bearing his cross for Christ even when countless others claim to be Christian and they dont practice what they preach.. Along those lines..

    i call this brave
but how dare i call this love
and not bear my cross to the end

Meaning how can he love God, and not stick beside him forever? The walk and journey with Jesus is never an easy one.. When you become a believer, you are taking a huge leap of faith and you become brave in what you believe, Because people are going to persecute you for believe in Jesus.. That is what I make of this song.. Its about a walk with God..
