"Begin" as written by and Benjamin Lee....
I'm walking down Broadway
Each foot step is a new love letter
I'm trying to make eye contact
With each and every stranger that I pass
Thinking about the city
It's living proof people need to be together
I'm thinking about how I just want to open up
And give and give and give
And it's OK for you to care
Cause I can feel you in the air
And while you wonder "how's this gonna end?"
I only want it to begin

I'm thinking about desire
I've had to learn how to sin successfully
I'm thinking about bliss
And bliss is all dressed up
And there's no one to dance with
Remembering her smile and the nuclear bomb
And the reasons I loved her
Walking through Central Park
I'm in a foreign country and I'm waiting for a sign
That it's ok for you to care
Cause I'm not going anywhere
And while you wonder if you should let me in
I only want it to begin

I'm still singing
Twisting new melodies, breaking arrangements
Thinking about my heart
I guess you've heard, sometimes it's heavy
But I just keep moving
When I hit a wall, I look up at the sky
I'm thinking about my maker
In spite of all this I know she won't give up on me
And it's OK for you to care
Cause I can taste you everywhere
While it's true
All straight things must bend
I only want it to begin

I only want it to begin
I only want it to begin
I only want it to begin

General Commenti believe this song is about the days when you go outside, and it's sunny and everyone seems to be pleasant, and you're just walking around reflecting on life and people you have loved, and you're looking forward to the rest of your life.

General Commentthe maker is his mother?
pretty pretty song. very introspective. very human and quite optimistic. "I only wanted to begin." yes.

General Commentno, maker = not his mother... the she he refers to in the next line is just the "she" he keeps referring to during the whole song.. so sweet lines are... its living proof people need to be together...each footstep is a new love letter... ive had to learn how to sin successfully... brilliant.

General CommentI too believe this song is absolutely wonderful. From what I know of Ben Lee, before he wrote this album he spent almost a year at a Buddhist monestary in Nepal. The time in peace attributes to the soothing nature of the entire album...but as a result, I would suggest that the "she" he is referring to as "maker" is quite possibly God, his God if not the Christian god. Instead of saying "He" for God, it is becoming more and more common to refer to God in the female form. Enjoy. Peace!

General CommentI agree that the "she won't giveup on me" is Either his mother or God. I feel even possibly both which makes this song that much more beautiful.
