It doesn't hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...

You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It's you and me won't be unhappy.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
Say, if I only could, oh...

You,
It's you and me,
It's you and me won't be unhappy.

"see'mon, baby, see'mon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
see'mon, angel, see'mon, see'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh..."

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

Quote from Kate Bush about the meaning of the song:

"I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can't understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each other's roles, if we could actually be in each other's place for a while, I think we'd both be very surprised! [Laughs] And I think it would lead to a greater understanding. And really the only way I could think it could be done was either... you know, I thought a deal with the devil, you know. And I thought, 'well, no, why not a deal with God!' You know, because in a way it's so much more powerful the whole idea of asking God to make a deal with you. You see, for me it is still called "Deal With God", that was its title. But we were told that if we kept this title that it would not be played in any of the religious countries, Italy wouldn't play it, France wouldn't play it, and Australia wouldn't play it! Ireland wouldn't play it, and that generally we might get it blacked purely because it had God in the title."

Here are many quotes from her about this song:

II really like this cover, don't listen to it that often but always enjoy it when I do. I would be interested to hear some more cover songs from WT.

I think the WT cover of this song, as well as Placebo's, are by far the best... though I hope no more covers are made of this song because it kinda loses it's touch if it's done too often

The Video Sugguests to me ...that She wants to make a deal with god to trade places with an Angel ! I could only imagine how that could feel like :) I believe that Angels are the Ultimate Super-heroes/spirits on Earth!

'And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, With no problems.'

so raise your glass tonight old pal to future's long and bright to being kind and bringing love to peace- don't ever fight

i kept calm and carried on some say i am "queen bitch" i'm just jesus in a thong why throw me in a ditch?

i walked away from you in life i never meant no wrong then you got me typing here i helped you write your songs

what made me feel the way i did? it's just the way you sing it made me stay so long my love, i'll always wear your ring

an A for effort, I deserve i gave my all for you no matter how you used me babe, my love was always true

yes you are my face, my dear you know i will comply i felt your widespread panic sweets you know i wouldn't lie

we were magnets babe, cut loose you can't deny our draw so then you hung me in your noose and sliced me with your saw?

so why is life so crazy man? and must it be so sad? i went to ask the scientist that fucker has no nads

did i get stalked? i guess i did my man i call bob dylan but i won't phone my lawyers no i know you must be illin'

you know i'm just a good girl, babe who really loves rough sex too bad we never had it even though you are my ex

it's true i live for concerts boy i like my music LIVE i love my jam bands fast and loud go screw that hip-hop jive

well life can make no sense at all it's fucked and who's to blame? i'm glad the music never stops if the song remains the same

so let's just call it even, right? a bear hug for an eye? i've never tried to kill myself you made me want to die

i hope you're happy, drone please do not wish that i was there you cut my hair and broke my throne that means you really care

i do believe we tried our best to circle round our love and now i guess it feels like death in heaven up above

i'll be jerry, you'll be bob that's what we always said and if we have to be apart i'm grateful to be dead

so please take care old friend you know i hope you live the life you'll forever be my king i'll be your kitty wife

you know where to find me babe out dancing in the light with you in my heart always and in my dreams at night

Anyone who has been awakened by Jesus from deep sleep can understand whats going on in this song. Its just reflection of humans sinful hearth - bitterness, proudness and rebellion against God. Ofcourse we have our pains and hard parts of life. But as you can ironically see from the video "Jesus`s Cross" - God has come to live in flesh as regular human and died innocently, through death on cross witch is very rude and hard. So there is no need to swap places with God or do any other not so wise deals. Everything has been done for you so you could find real happiness and Truth and eternal life. Just accept and belive that Jesus is Son of God. Only through that door you save yourself from eternal death and instead find eternal life in Gods Heavenly Kingdom which is far mor better and happier and more loving than world here with problems and pain. If you think for a moment you see this gift is free and priceless - tho world nad its money could buy nothing, even not a bit of it. God bless you all who read this little chapter. Jesus is the son of God.Love God and all ppl around you, also those strangers you see everyday !

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
