"Jackie Blue" as written by Larry M. Lee and Steve Cash....
Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives her life from inside of her room
Hides a smile when she's wearin' a frown
Ooh, Jackie you're not so down

You like your life in a free-form style
You'll take an inch but you'd love a mile
There never seems to be quite enough
Floating around to fill your lovin' cup

Ooh, Jackie Blue
What's a game girl, if you never lose?
Ask a winner and you'll probably find
Ooh, Jackie they've lost at sometime

Don't try to tell me that you're not aware
Of what you're doing and that you don't care
You say it's easy, just a natural thing
Like playing music, but you never sing

Ooh, Jackie Blue
Making wishes that never come true
Going places that you've never been
Ooh, Jackie Blue, you're going again

Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives a dream that can never come true
Making love is like sifting through sand
Ooh, Jackie, it slips through your hand

Every day, in your indigo eyes
I watch the sunset but I don't see it rise
Moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine
You'd take the world but you won't take the time

Ooh-hoo-hoo, Jackie Blue
Lives her life from inside of a room
Makes you think that her life is a drag
Ooh Jackie, what fun you have had

Ooh, Jackie
Ooh, Jackie
Ooh, Jackie
Ooh, Jackie
Hey, hey, hey, hey

    My InterpretationIn my own interpretation:

"You'll take an inch but you'd love a mile"
She is trapped by her own insecurity, and wishes she had the nerve to take more chances to improve her seemingly empty life, and is very self-limiting.

    "What's a game,girl,if you never lose
    ask a winner,and you'll probably find,
    Ooh Jackie,they've lost at sometime"
She is afraid of taking chances because she's afraid of losing, and the singer is trying to tell her that sometimes you have to lose a few times before success.

"Every day in your indigo eyes,
I watch the sun set but I don't see it rise"
She always seems to be at an ending, and never a new beginning, and appears very world-weary despite the fact that she is very inexperienced and insecure.

"You'd take the world but you won't take the time"
She wants everyone to think she has been there, done that, when in fact she just doesn't have the nerve and just won't take the time to allow life's experiences to happen to her.'Jackie Blue' is an anxious, insecure girl who is full of doubt and cynicism, and instead of risk losing or failure, she puts on a facade of being experienced and worldly, instead of earning and learning through experience. She expects things to happen too soon, and the singer is trying to tell her that it all takes time and sometimes you just have to fail a few times before you get it right.

General Commenthm, i always took this song as a girl who was a combination depressed / antisocial, and wanted a different life, better and more exciting than her own.
"lives her life from inside of a room", "going places where she's never been" and "ooh jackie what fun you have had" makes me think of somebody who rejects reality and lives in dreamland to escape their troubles, and is content that way.
not to over analyze haha. i think i got that idea from a personal experience.

General CommentSong originally written by Larry Lee only..it was about a guy named Jackie Blue, Dares producer heard Larry Lee playing this on the piano in the studio as they were waiting to do some recording, the producer asked him what the song was about and Larry said a friend of his that had a drug problem, the producer said "No" it's about a girl and it's a hit song, so he sent Steve Cash and Larry Lee into another room to work out new lyrics, the ones we all know today.......

General CommentI have never cared for it.
It says that a girl who has no life or at least acts like she doesn't actually
does and just plays mind games with the people around her.

General CommentSo sad that this was probably their biggest hit-- it's such a wimpy song. Typical Larry Lee, though.

Good song, though. Just different than most of OMD'S.

General CommentI really like this song. I always took it to mean the girl tried to make everyone feel sorry for her but the singer saw through the guise... playing with everyone else's emotions ("poor Jackie's so unhappy!")... or something.

General CommentIt's about a girl with a cluster B personality disorder. Probably histrionic…

    Sad song.

My InterpretationI heard the song when it first came out, so maybe I have a differnet veiw of it.
Yes its about a girl who is depressed, and maybe anitisocial. But she also dosent fit anywhere, people may see her around but dont really know her, She dose drugs so that she feels something anything. smoking a joint and passing it to someone is her only way of feeling normal. But the drugs comes to a point where she stops feeling. And like with most drugs you shut down. Everyhting closes in and its like a wall around you, And your locked inside.
