"Tyrant" as written by Samuel Bingham Endicott and John A. Conway....
Every time you come around
There's another bouquet for me
A corsage of promises and I am pinned
Like a butterfly on a card
Now I'm naked and I'm scarred
And you're so perfect to me

Violent eyes but hands like a steeple
Tell me lies with a tongue like a needle
And every word's shot down my throat
A face like an iron fist
That I could never resist
I learned it all by rote

Words of wisdom, from your tyrant mouth

I'm stuck just like a pig
Roasting in your eyes
I'll believe anything that you want
You better teach me how to live
'cause you make me want to die
You took it all, now you're all I've got

These noises in my head
Just noises in my head
If I could I'd drown them right out
And bury all of these noises from your tyrant mouth

You're just a noise in my head
I'll drown you out and I'll bury all the
Noises from your hateful little mouth

General CommentI went to a HotHotHeat and Bravery show the other night. The lead singer of the Bravery actually told the meaning of this song. When he used to live in NYC he fell in love with this girl that lived in the apartment nextdoor to him and they dated. However, when they broke up he could still "hear her" through the walls with other guys. Very heartbreaking I know. He looked very painful while he performed this one.

General CommentTHIS IS THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM (sorry I had to vent right there....just couldnt believe I was only the third person to comment on this song) Its a shame I wasnt able to go to Coachella but I'll be in Chicago during Lollapalooza so I'm so glad I'll get to see them then (and the killers and bravery on the same bill...cant wait to see the fur fly lol)....anyway, the song.....Tyrant is so dark and moody and catchy-as-hell that you can't possibly not like it. I think its about a really abusive relationship when you feel so completely dependent on the other person that you forget everyone else. You shouldnt be with them but youre too scared not to be so you just hang on for the ride...Really great to listen to over and over again

General CommentThank you for that comment, Lindsey. It's nice to know that somebody shares my viewpoint on this song. Everybody I know who likes The Bravery NEVER mentions this as one of their favorites... meanwhile Tyrant is my favorite song on the whole CD. This song is truly amazing, and I found myself listening to it over 90 times in total, but now that I've lost my iPod somewhere in my house for three weeks (yes, it's pathetic.) I haven't been able to listen to it. With the meaning.. you kind of have to listen to it to find out. It's a pretty dark and mysterious song, but it's really good.
Also, the lyrics aren't correct above. It's not "I let the words shot down my throat", it's "And every word's shot down my throat".
