He's a friend to all the stars
Made a fortune selling cars
Not beyond a little sleaze
He's Mister White Keys

Wiley loves the tanning booth
Just a little altered truth
Made America's Who's Who
If he could do it so could you
Sheltered in tax brackets
Higher than an angel's cloud
Pontificates on rackets
And cheats on his wife with his pals
Once he met a musician
Shook his hand like a Soul man
Not a lot like you or me
He's Mister White Keys

He climbs into daddy's Benz and goes
Collecting the rents of those Welfare cheats
A lot of trouble when he tries to find the beat
He dances like a chovel with a couple left feet
He said he'd rather own the whole damn town
Than be graceful or be well-endowed
He exaggerates a bit
foot and mouth a perfect fit
He's the one who tried to cheese
He's Mister White Key's

I feel sorry for the guy
I laugh when I see his shtick
All that poor bastard wanted
Was to make it with the beautiful chicks
But that don't excuse the prick

He's Mister White Keys
He's Mister White Keys
He's Mister White Keys

Hey
He's Mister White Keys
He's Mister White Keys
He's Mister White Keys

Hey
He's Mister White Keys
He's Mister White Keys
He's Mister White Keys

He climbs into daddy's Benz and goes
Collecting the rents of those Wellfare Cheats

General CommentThis song is soo awesome. The meaning's pretty straightforward. I think It's called Mr. White Keys because the guy only takes the easiest path in life, which is handed to him by his rich father. He only plays the white keys of the piano of life, and doesn't touch the sharps and flats of the black keys which would make the song more interesting but are harder to incorporate (change key).

General Commenthomagod, somebody commented on a CPD song that isn't Zoot Suit friggin' Riot!
Anyway, good interpretation. I'ma agree with you, sir. Pretty straightforward song. Indeed.

General CommentI never thought about the correlation between playing only the white keys on the piano (it's all in one key, so no wrong notes) and taking the "easy path"in the life--makes sense, though.

I like the jabs at Mr. White Keys' hypocrisy, too:
"Pontificates on rackets": i.e., says cheating people out of money is bad!
"And cheats on his wife with his pal's": but he has no compunctions about cheating if he can get away with it.

General CommentI always laugh when I hear "He dances like a shovel with a couple left feet." Such great imagery.

General CommentI always thought the name/phrase "Mr White Keys" referred to the shining white teeth of his salesman-esque grin.
