I just can't believe that it's over.
We were chilling out on the sofa,
Digging how the guitar goes,
In a song that no one knows.
Did you lick that line yourself,
Or did the voodoo magic help?
Does everyone have a different take?
Do you seem real but I seem fake?
Does everyone get hypnotized by your fire?

So long, Jimmy, so long.
Though you only stayed a moment,
We all know that you're the one. Singing,
So long, Jimmy, so long.
Sure we're glad for the experience,
We miss you now you've gone.
We're just swimming in your soul 'cause,
We all wish we wrote this song.
Life goes on.

I'm just so relieved that it's over.
We were hanging out going nowhere,
Digging how the guitar goes,
In a song that no one knows.
Did you burn that bridge yourself,
Or did the voodoo magic help?
Does everyone have a different take?
Are you just cool and I'm just baked?
Does everyone get mesmerized by your fire?

So long, Jimmy, so long.
Though you only stayed a moment,
We all know that you're the one. Singing,
So long, Jimmy, so long.
Sure we're glad for the experience,
We miss you now you've gone.
We're just swimming in your soul 'cause,
We all wish we wrote this song.
Life goes on.

General Comment:to me this song is about Jimi Hendrix...I mean look at the lyrics: "Or did the voodoo magic help?"-Voodoo Child people and "Does everyone get hypnotized by your fire?" the thing jimi did with the fire... I really think it is about jimi hendrix and its very cool because I LOVE HENDRIX and i think the fact that james blunt like him too is very very cool!!!

General Comment:My original thoughts seem to be alot more simple than other peoples. I thought that it was about either him being chucked out of a band or him chucking someone else out of a band and that the whole song was supposed to be taking the mic out of that guy. There's loads of references to music being written and things like "Digging how the guitar goes, In a song that no one knows" could be referring to how the band weren't going anywhere. Stuff like "We all wish we wrote this song" could be sarcastic refferences to a x-bandmate's songwriting abilities. These were my thoughts although everyone seems to be sure that it was about Jimi Hendrix or Jim Morrison.

General Comment:It's about a guy called Jimmy he served with in the army. The guy used to take his guitar everywhere, he used to strap it to the tank and stuff, and he taught James how to play.
Then the poor guy got blown up a couple of months before his tour was over.
So I think this song is like a tribute to him, but Jimmy wasn't the kinda guy to want a sad song written about him. Juding by the song, the guy was quite badass. Or maybe passionate.
    R.I.P Jimmy.

General Comment:Not Jimi Hendrix, but Jim Morrison, like Eloise said. Listen to the last 20 seconds and you'll hear Riders on the Storm...

Voodoo magic charm -> mojo -> Mr. Mojo Risin' (anagram from LA Woman).

And, if it was about jimi hendrix, why wouldnt it be jimi instead of jimmy...?

General Comment:actually its about both, Jimi hendrix and Jim Morrison. he's a fan of both. the lyrics were about when he was going abroad and "leaving" them behind. could be a metaphor for when he went to kosovo and was separted from friends and family
