"Violet" as written by Michael Hanmer and Michael Rainbow....
The tragic comedy divine
Paints the way to peace of mind
Leaving shallow lovers far behind

Past uncertainties combine
Bringing tears to sleepless eyes
Memory runs the course of time

Blood runs cold beyond
The violet prison
For violent visions
And so the broken record plays
As you throw us away

We're never enough

We're drowning in cliches
So desperate to love
We're twisting every word they say

So we sleep through the days

Within the heat of passions war
Lust is spilled upon the floor
Staining red the wasted metaphor

The selfish need for something more
Claws in vain at closing doors
Scarring faces once adored

Tracing circles in the violet prison
For violet visions
And so the broken record plays
As you throw us away

General CommentWhen I first hear this song I was immediatley reminded of the 80's. I think this song maybe somewhat about a Psych-Ward. "Tracing circles in the Violets Prison for Violent Visions" See thats the part the really sticks with you, "Prison for Violent Visions" Where would you be for violent visions? An asylum type institution.

My second guess was that the protagonist in this story has made their own prison. "Past uncertainties combine, bringing tears to sleepless eyes. Memory runs the course of time. Blood runs cold" Maybe the person was wronged in the past and they just can't put the past behind them so now they've become inprisoned by their thoughts.

General Commentthis song has to do with 'stuffies(stuffies is short hand for stuff animals)......Ok so as I was saying it's about stuffies. "We're never enough.
    We're drowning in cliches.
    So desperate to love,
We're twisting every word they say.
So we sleep through the days."
kids go to school during the day.the stuffies have none to play.adults dont play with them,so they sit alone, theers nothing more to do then sleep. It's a cliche' that ones you love always leave, and only true love you,if they do indeed return.

"Within the heat of passion's war,
Lust is spilled upon the floor,
    Staining red the wasted metaphor"
has to do with pets.i know dogs and cats very well and stuff animals are always at war with these two animals, especially when teh kids are at school, and theers no one home to protect them.......time at school is wasted, and teh animals get ears torn off and stuff, thus why the "staining red is a wasted ,metaphor, they cant bleed.

"The selfish need for something more
Claws in vain at closing doors,
    Scarring faces once adored,
    Tracing circles in the
    Violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
    As you throw us away."

stufanimals are loyal and love you enternal;ly,but its the same broken record, kids leavea nd come back, they love you for a while and then your tossed in some corner abandoned, and eventually you gte so tattered"they thropw you away"

General CommentThis is by far my favorite song by The Birthday Massacre. The instrumental sounds amazing, and chibi's voice is perfect. I also love the lyrics.

Each time i hear this song and i try and relate it to my personal experiences in life, i get a new interpretation.

    "Past uncertainties combine,
    Bringing tears to sleepless eyes.
Memory runs the course of time."
This explains someone who is stuck in the past, uncertian about what in the past lead them up to this point where they are so depressed and are kept up at night with their mind running.

    "Blood runs cold beyond
The violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays"
The color violet may symbolize the mind state, which may be a prision for someone with visions of the past. The broken record could symbolize life.

    "As you throw us away
    We're never enough.
    We're drowning in cliches.
    So desperate to love,
We're twisting every word they say.
So we sleep through the days."
A person can watch their ex get into a relationship with another girl and then then brake up, and see how he throws her away like he once did to that person. Then she feels how he threw them both away and how they're not enough to appease him. They were so desperate to be in love, like everyone. They become depressed and sleep through the days.

General CommentThis is such a good song. But I was thinking about the first few lines
    "The tragic comedy divine
Paints the way to peace of mind,
    Leaving shallow lovers far behind."
The word choice is interesting. The "tragic comedy divine" makes me think of The Divine Comedy. I was just thinking that Hell is seemingly the ultimate prison. In The Divine Comedy, Dante paints the way to peace of mind, and salvation. Just an interesting thought. :]

General Commentits probably more of what viscera eyes said but this song reminds me of someone constantly trying to forget the past fool themselves that everything is good, and time and time again she/he is reminded that its not.

somehow i think violet prison is like fools paradise, if u know what i mean. like, violet prisoners are kind of like kids, on a way, happy and innocent. or maybe just people who fool themselves that their life is great and their love is real and so on.
and "blood runs cold" beyond it because beyond the dream world there's reality where everything and everyone is cruel and cold.

"drowning in cliches so desperate to love," this is about people watching too many movies and trying to act like it in real life, smothering true love with clishes, thinking that it will maker it better, or at least look better.

"were twisting every word they say" misinterpreting the things their lovers say to them, and fooling themselves again. or using misinterpretation as an excuse to do things they arent supposed to do.

"sleep through the days" could mean how our imagination, creativity and true feeling "sleep through the days" as we replace them with masks, clishes and how we should behave.

i dunno, just an idea :D

    My InterpretationThe tragic comedy divine
Paints the way to peace of mind,
    Leaving shallow lovers far behind.

    i cant really interperet that

    Past uncertainties combine,
    Bringing tears to sleepless eyes.
Memory runs the course of time.

Many things with the person you love have damaged you mentally and emotionally so bad you cant sleep; but instead you cry, and this seems to always come back and haunt you through time.

    Blood runs cold beyond
The violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
    As you throw us away.

"Blood runs cold" means all the pain that keeps coming; but you put it in the back of your mind to avoid the violet prison (which would be the struggle you're stuck in) or provoking the struggle which makes you think of violent visions (being memories that were so good to you but now they inflict you with depression since theyre gone forever) The broken record is you, and you are still living through this pain but the one you love is just throwing you to the side.

    We're never enough.
    We're drowning in cliches.
    So desperate to love,
We're twisting every word they say.
So we sleep through the days.

No matter what we do, we cant win the love of the person we love the most. Every word they say could either effect you in a leading on type of way but they dont necessarily mean that even if you believe they do(maybe they do) or they could send you to the "violet prison." We are sometimes so convinced that something has to come of loving this person so much, so we ignore most of the things going on around us and just worry about this person; while were not worrying. were sleeping.

Within the heat of passion's war,
Lust is spilled upon the floor,
    Staining red the wasted metaphor.

The passions war is another way of saying a relationship that didnt work the way you wanted it. This upsets you making you hate the other person or vice versa(explaining the lust).

The selfish need for something more
Claws in vain at closing doors,
    Scarring faces once adored,
    Tracing circles in the
    Violet prison for violent visions.
And so the broken record plays,
    As you throw us away.

Its selfish because youd do anything for the acceptance of the person you love but only because you want the pain to go away. Clawing in vain at closing doors.. meaning you continue to try but there is absolutely no chance of it working out. which leads you to the violet prison again.. tracing circles.. and youre still that broken record.. living on.. sleeping through the days..

Song MeaningThis song is about a couple who thought they were in love, but figured out they didn't really know each other at all. They were in shallow infatuation. They are desperate convince themselves that they are in love, to the point where they completely re invent each other in their headsl twisting the other's words and ignoring their imperfections. "Violet Vision" Is a metaphor for rose colored glasses. They try to see only the good side of the other person in the effort to hold the relationship together.

    The tragic comedy divine
Paints the way to peace of mind,
    Leaving shallow lovers far behind.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Past uncertainties combine,
    Bringing tears to sleepless eyes.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

They realised that there were many things they did not like about each other during their relationship, but ignored them, wanting to be in love, so badly. They lose sleep over this.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Memory runs the course of time.
    Blood runs cold beyond
The violet prison for violent visions.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(They lose the passion of the relationship as they realize how much they actually don't like each other. They begin to but on their happy faces and try to convince themselves they do like the other person (Violet = rose colored glass, blood runs cold = loss of passion))
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And so the broken record plays,
    As you throw us away.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(They broken record = lies they tell each other, and themselves about how they love each other. They are throwing away the relationship because they are not trying to better each other)
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    We're never enough.
    We're drowning in cliches.
    So desperate to love,
We're twisting every word they say.
So we sleep through the days.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(They tell each other how much they love each other, and when the other says something that bothers them, they try to convince themselves that the other had an alternative meaning to what they said. To avoid having to twist every word, they begin to speak only in cliches ( "I love you more than the world"type crap)because they can only be taken in one way, and that way is mushy false sweetness. Even through all this, they still have a hard time convincing themselves that they genuinely like each other, to they " Sleep through the days" or try not to pay any attention to the things they don't like about each other.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Within the heat of passion's war,
Lust is spilled upon the floor,
    Staining red the wasted metaphor.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________
(Why do they try sooooo hard to convince themselves they love each other? BECAUSE THAY HAVE THE HOTTS FOR EACH OTHER, Of COURSE!)
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The selfish need for something more
Claws in vain at closing doors,
    Scarring faces once adored,
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Trying to hold together the obviously failing relationship, they are hurting each other.
