"Ascendancy" as written by and Corey/gregoletto Beaulieu....
All this life shrouded in a veil
Of deception in association
But now I will witness thee
With unblinding open eyes
Judas I bury you in your own blood
You only held me down from what I was suppose to be
Ascend above the ashes of the world I once knew
Ascendancy is the only thing this will prove
I spread the fuel with ire
Desire
To incinerate all - behold I rise - phoenix
Ascend above the ashes
Ascend above it all

General CommentWow can't believe no one has commented yet. I would say this is one of their best song's. Ascendancy is about rising above all the people who have cheated and who stabbed you in the back.

General CommentWhat else needs to be said, Trivium rocks! As for the song, it's one of my favorite tracks off the album too, hell the entire album as a whole is great. I've seen them play when they were with Danzig... and they're gonna be at Ozzfest this year too! \m/

General CommentI agree with The clairvoyant. It seems to be about rising above betrayal, and being stabbed in the back. The writers mentioning Judas pretty much secures this assertion. Some good imagery with the pheonix, and the viel of deception. All in all, a good song. 2nd only to Pull Harder.

General CommentDoez any1 think that this could be proof of Trivium's belief in a higher power. It doez speak of Judas' betrayal against Jesus. It also speaks of someone ascending above the ashes of the world as Jesus Christ did. Another strong point supporting this is it saying "You only held me down from what I was suppose to be". This makes me believe that Trivium is saying that even though Jesus was betrayed, he would still achieve his goal.
There really isnt anything saying that Metal Bands, no matter how hardcore, can't be christians. Just look at "As I Lay Dying".

General Comment"I think the loss of innocence is a time when you realize how truly fucked up the world around you is. This album, as a whole, deals lyrically with many realizations based on this theme. Ascendancy, to me, means the overcoming of life's obstacles; to rise above everything that once held me down- and to realize and overcome the corruption of the world around me."-Matt Heafy. (lead singer)
I got this meaning of the Trivium website, So thats the real meaning..! =)

General CommentPinkPrincess6916 - i think it's up to everyone to interpret the message in their own way, even the band had some idea when they wrote the lyrics it can still have another meaning to me...

General CommentThis is about "burning" your past away, and starting again as a higher being, hence "Ascending".
