"Goodbye Waves and Driveways" as written by and Stephen Bryce Avary....
Just, walk away
And gather your thoughts for the second wave
Of this argument
On this epic changing day
It's crazy to think that an hour ago all things were great.

But we stand here
Both proud both wrong and right
Throwing cheap shots
In this stubborn fight
And our lives are so intertwined and one
But we're just so stuck in this moment and it's clear that we're coming undone

And you see it's hard for me to breath
When I got all worked up with these feelings
And I don't know exactly how it is
But we can be so mad we consider it to not exist
But we both know that there's so much love clenched within our fists

The goodbye waves, in the driveway
Just resonate
And, yes, I'm throwing it right back at her
While we're drowning in rivers from our face
As we just want to know "if this, is this, over"
A trembling silence fills the air
As we stand here
So impaired
But so aware

Sit in this house
Alone with fresh photographs
And I just can't relax
Cigarette smoke
I'm starting to choke on this
And half of my soul is on the road in a car with the girl in a dress

And see it's making it hard for me to breath
When I got all worked up with these feelings
And I don't know exactly how it is
Just to say you're right, you're wrong, we both lose to it

The goodbye waves, in the driveway
Just resonate
And, yes, I'm throwing it right back at her
While we're drowning in rivers from our face
As we just want to know "if this, is this, over"
A trembling silence fills the air
As we stand here (oh whoa)

So hey now
Maybe we're being stupid
Maybe we're being dumb
Maybe it's time that we stopped and we realize
That fighting will win
We are one
How at first it's pure and lovely
The battle can be torn to shreds

With time and with patience
And with love and affection
Can beat this with needles and thread

Because I love you
And do you love me?
And nothing will make that sway
I said I love you
And do you love me?
And nothing will make, could make, could make, could make it sway
So remember me
(Yeah)
Remember me
(Yeah)
Remember me

But don't walk away

General CommentThis song is amazing. It's pretty self explanitory too, its about a break up between two people who love eachother but just can't get around an arguement that they're having. I'm finding myself in a simliar situation so maybe thats why I like it so much...but I'm in love with it.
May 17...Hello, good friend. Its going to be awesome.

General Commenti cant believe only 1 person has commented on this song. it's so great, especially when he yells at the end. that's probably my favorite song off the album, just because of the emotion in his voice.

General CommentI love this song. from a band that creates such poppy songs and upbeat tempos, this was a nice change. i thought that after about a minute or two the rest of the instruments would come in, and i could get a pick me up. But the song maintains it's feeling of frustration. This song sets itself apart from others, in my mind, because of that heartwrenching ending. In all rocket summer you get the idea that the confidence of bryce is unfaltering. even when he's singing of bad times, it has a quirky good outlook. (ie: mean thoughts and cheap shots). it reminds me so much of dashboard. raw and uninhibited, and yet friendly.

Most of all i love how the first line is just walk away, and the song is ended with don't walk away. it's so hard to be in an argument. that sums it up.

General CommentI love the Rocket Summer. I just saw Bryce perform yesterday in Flagstaff, and it was worth the drive.

the part that you don't know is "and how a first kiss makes so cute and lovely"

General Commentit's just exactly what love is like sometimes. you fight because none of you want to be wrong, with pride blinding you, not being able to see the amazing thing you have going on. but you know that you love each other...and that's all what should matter.

So hey now, maybe we’re just being stupid.
    Maybe we’re just being dumb.
No, hey, maybe it’s time that we stopped,
and we realize that like that flag in the wind we are one.
(((((And how at first its made so pure and lovely but in battle can be torn to shreds )))))
and With time and patience, and love and affection we can beat this with needles and thread.
Because I love you! And you love me! And nothing will make this leave.
I said, I love you, and you love me. And nothing will make, make, make, make this leave.
So remember me, Yeah… remember me. Yeah. Remember me.

    Don’t Walk Away.

General CommentWhen you hear Bryce say "I love you" it sounds like he means it with every cell in his body.

General CommentI do think it's self explanatory, and not open to interpretation. It's about a couple thats in love, but they just fight and fight.
"we can be so mad we considered not to exist.
We both know that there’s so much love clenched between our fists."
They think about breaking up because of all these silly arguments and pointless fights, but the fact at the end of the day, is they're in love.
Which is explains in the "Flag" metaphor.

I also love how it starts with "walk away" and end in "don't walk away". definetely reflects the mixed emotions and wantings during an argument.

    "we both lose to win"
I love that line so much, and when you fight with a lover, that needs to be kept in mind. You win the fight, yes, but you might lose the ultimate battle. Good stuff.
