"Pleasure and Pain" as written by and Sean/jones Combs....
Lover lover why do you push
Why do you push, why do you push
Baby baby, did you forget about me

I've been standing at the back of your life
Back row center just above the ice
Please don't ask me how I've been getting off
No please don't ask me how I've been getting off

Break my body, with the back of your hand
Doesn't make sense from where I stand
Baby, baby why you want to mess it up
Sooner or later I'll find my place
Find my body better fix my face
Please don't ask me
How I've been getting off
No please don't ask me
How I've been getting off

It's a fine line between pleasure and pain
You've done it once you can do it again
Whatever you've done don't' try to explain
It's a fine, fine line between pleasure and pain

It's all the same
It's all the same
It's all the same

My InterpretationI have to agree this is about abuse at the hands of a lover. I could be completely wrong here but I think that the line "Please don't ask me how I've been getting off" could be directed at people wondering how she could have sex with such a man.

General CommentIs it just me, or is this song about masturbation/sex? I'm pretty sure it is. I didn't notice until I listened to the lyrics clearly. O_o

General Commentwell i cant seem to understand how you drew to that conclusion as i think its about physical abuse from a "lover"

"brake my body with the back of you hand" - physical abuse (how can this line mean masturbation?)

"doesn't make sense from where i stand" - why are you hitting me?

"you wanna mess it up" - this is braking us apart

"you've done it once you can do it again"/ its all the same one twice no matter what the reason you shouldn't do it

"pleasure and pain" - love some one and they cause you pain...

General Commentthis song creeps me out a little bit...it sounds dark somehow. i do love the video though...it reminds me of some crazy broadway musical.

it's really hard to know for sure what it's about. but the whole "pleasure and pain" imagery is what really speaks to me upon first listen. i don't get it being about masturbation...maybe abuse. it's about loving someone who causes you pain, i think. such sadness in your lover forgetting about you. beautiful song.

General Commenti rekon its about a girl who is hurt and used by someone she really likes, hence this causes her pain n she gets off other ways to please herself

General CommentI agree with head like a hole; I think it's about physical abuse in a relationship.

General CommentI think _head_like_a_hole is on the right track, It is definately about domestic abuse. Her man thinks she has been cheating on him and questions her about it, not gently, which is what the 'why do you push' is about. While it does not explicitly say she did, it seems likely since she does feel unappreciated 'I've been standing at the back of your life'. Regardless the man either does not get the answer he wanted or just flat out doesn't believe her and progresses from pushing to outright assault 'break my body with the back of your hand'. She then plans to leave him because of the abuse 'sooner or later I'll find my place' knowing full well that he is not likely to stop abusing her 'you've done it once, you can do it again'.I think _head_ has it for the most part pretty spot on. It's about a woman who has just been interrogated (rightly or not) about weather or not she is cheating on her boyfriend. The one thing I think he's got wrong is the 'why you want to mess it up' line. I think that refers to him and the damage he does to her body, not he throwing away the relationship.

On a personal note, this is so by far my favourite Divinyls song. :)
