So you let your hair down
And you let the names fly
Stupid
And you let the ball drop
Why'd you do it?
Why'd you do it?
Going to let your bridge burn
With your secretive pining
And he was
A manic depressive
Named Laughing Boy
Named Laughing Boy

well actually, xthestarslaughdx, it shouldn't remind you of a boy you like that laughs a lot, because the "laughing boy" name is supposed to be ironic. it's a purpose CALLED "laughing boy" but who is actually a manic depressive. everyone expects this person to be happy and perfect, but secretly they are miserable. the brushing hair and putting on make up is symbolic of covering up the person's real feelings.

i think that this song could probably be completely about him:

"so you brush your hair down and you let your makeup dry." he's pretending to be something that he is not, which goes along with overachieving when being manic. maybe the makeup and hair-brusing isn't literal; maybe it is.

"and you let the ball drop. why did you do it?" i hear this line and think of a hacky sack that you're constantly trying to keep in the air and keep in motion, though eventually, it will fall. it could be a symbol for his manic depression because the manic side could be motionmotionmotion, even though it's inevitable that the depression will come, but he still questions himself and why he let his depressive side get the best of him.

"and you let your bridges burn with your secretive timing." he is being destructive and keeping it on the down-low.

"he was a manic depressive named laughing boy." reading that the name isaac means "laughing boy" brings a lot of insight to the song.

this song reminds me of myself...im usually considered the happy-go-lucky,comedian of my friends who always expect me to be laughing and smiling or cracking jokes...but nobody really knows that i am bipolar, which i feel like i cant talk about with anyone bc im the funny girl....

it also reminds me how most famous comedians are inside tortured souls and almost all of them suffer from some sort of depression. i have no idea why it is that way.

as bob saget said "If a really good comedian isn't depressed, somethings wrong."

i think it's on the vinyl version of "this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about" along with "edit the sad parts"

I did some reasearch and it turns out "Isaac" means "he will laugh".. don't know if that's just coincidence but it always struck me.

    great song.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
