"Alaska" as written by Thomas Giles Rogers, Paul Andrew Waggoner, Cartland Blake Richardson, Robert Dustin Waring and Daniel Lanford Briggs....
The road is dry I'm fucking delirious right now
Life goes on glorious evening of nodding and jumping starts
I need to make a personal dance party.
The brain works very weird at this hour
Not the best time for lyrics I suppose keep writing, keep dreaming.

Nope, can't be awake and dream, drift in and out, in and out.

Eye motions in out heat lightning,
Scares us both the only two people awake at this fucking hour
I won't remember this in the morning at least I wrote this all down
Please pick the right song the one
That keeps the eyes wide creepy yes,
Creepy the idea of control controlling death
With alertness when is the fucking sun coming up.

Then it all changes, same scenery
But sun involved shouldn't be much different
Alaska the brain works very weird at this hour.
Tick tock tick tock the rain is pouring now wide awake
At least for now nature can be the death of me
A thing we'll never overcome in out in out.

General CommentIt's acually a song he wrote about trying to stay awake while driving.
In a interveiw he stated... the album's name is alaska, because it's a place like no other. A place where anyone can start over.

The song is so bad ass though it was actually the first song I heard from the band.

General CommentI realize I'm a little late for this post but... people... let's put two and two together here.

If you've seen the video, the song has an enormous element of insomnia in it (obviously). The song name is Alaska. Certain parts of Alaska experience one month of straight darkness every year. No sun. An insomniac's worst nightmare (no pun intended).

"Nature can be the death of me."
"When is the fucking sun coming up?"
"Then is all changes, same scenery, sun involved. Shouldn't be much different."

The man depicted in the video keeps getting up to look out the window for light (IE the key to cure his insomnia) and continues to not find it. Things shrink in the room to miniscule sizes (Maybe to makes him feel like the room was getting smaller? I don't have a ton of thoughts on that) and such. This song is definitely about insomnia, and what could make it better than a month of straight darkness? :)

If you can disprove my case, I'd love to hear yours. I've never actually heard Tommy quote this but... watch the video, read the lyrics, listen to the song and then give me your thoughts. Always happy to expand on my Between the Buried and Me philosophy.

Oh. And BTBAM (namely Tommy, Paul and Blake) have some of the most unnaturally talented musicians of our time. I saw them live three days ago. Fourth time. Keep it up boys. Keep it the fuck up.

General Commentreminds me of the movie Insomnia, and the way it would fuck you up being in darkness for nearly half the year and then in the light for the other half... also just how the brain works differently at night, how it feels different. good lyrics, imo
