"Time and a Word" as written by and Jon/foster Anderson....
In the morning when you rise,
Do you open up your eyes, see what I see?
Do you see the same things ev'ry day?
Do you think of a way to start the day
Getting things in proportion?
Spread the news and help the world go 'round.
Have you heard of a time that will help us get it together again?
Have you heard of the word that will stop us going wrong?
Well, the time is near and the word you'll hear
When you get things in perspective.
Spread the news and help the word go round.

There's a time and the time is now and it's right for me,
It's right for me, and the time is now.
There's a word and the word is love and it's right for me,
It's right for me, and the word is love.

Have you heard of a time that will help get it together again?
Have you heard of the word that will stop us going wrong?
Well, the time is near and the word you'll hear
When you get things in perspective.
Spread the news and help the word go round.

There's a time and the time is now and it's right for me,
It's right for me, and the time is now.
There's a word and the word is love and it's right for me,
It's right for me, and the word is love.
There's a time and the time is now and it's right for me,
It's right for me, and the time is now.
There's a word and the word is love and it's right for me,
It's right for me, and the word is love.

General Commenti love this song, it completely defines the "hippie" attitude to me. the message is great too, makes you wonder why humans can't just get along. no matter how bad your life has ever been, all that matters is that you are alive "now" and "now" is your opportunity to help other people and make the world a better place.

General Commentwow, i'm the first to comment of this song?

i think this song is about living in a balanced way, despite living in a self-destructive world. the main point is- the time is now and the word is love.

General CommentI absolutely love this song. No doubt one of my favorite yes songs. You may be right, last days, but i happen to think it's about having a meaning to your life and not just living a boring, every-day-the-same life, hence the line "spread the news and help the world go 'round." I also think they are relating to wanting better things to happen, and to be able to get things together in your life. Tell me what you think. That's just my opinion.

General CommentThis seems to me one Yes song where Jon had a definite meaning behind the lyrics - not that I am sure what it is exactly! But to me it seems like a message of peace and actually doing something about it to make the world a better place.

General CommentListen to the studio version and towards the end it kind of sounds like parts when they sing "the word is love" there is a backup vocal singing "the word is God" in harmony. It's subtle and not every time, but I swear I hear it. As far as the meaning of that, I'd say the words God and Love are interchangeable in many cases. Too bad so many of "God's" followers get hung up on the details, distracting from the real message. THE WORD IS LOVE.
