the cry of the city like a siren's song
wailing over the rooftops the whole night long
saw a shooting star like a diamond in the sky
must be someone's soul passing by

these are the streets
where we used to run where your Papa's from
these are the days
where you become what you become
these are the streets
where the story's told
the truth unfolds
darkness settles in

* shine your light down on me
lift me up so i can see
shine your light when you're gone
give me the strength to carry on
carry on

don't wanna be a hero
just an everyday man
trying to do the job the very best he can
but now it's like living on borrowed time
out on the rim, over the line
always tempting fate like a game of chance
never wanna stick around to the very last dance
sometimes i stumble and take a hard fall
loose hold your grip off the wall*

i thought i saw him walking by the side of the road
maybe trying to find his way home

he's here but not here
he's gone but not gone
just hope he knows if i get lost*

General CommentThis song is from the Ladder 49 soundtrack and it's great. It fits the movie very well and every time I hear this song I flashback to the last scene of the movie. I encourage everyone to see the movie and I guarentee you'll think differently of our firefighters. This song to me is just about being inspirational and very poetic. Basically, go see the movie if you haven't. It's interesting to see how John Travolta has aged and our new star Joaquin Phoenix is advancing. It's one of those songs that you listen to before you sleep, easy listening. :-D Enjoy life!

General CommentThis song is actually has meaning unlike so of the songs out there. It really says someone and fits Ladder 49 so well. It is definately a movie you'll want to see. I almost cried :) but in a good happy way.

General CommentEvery time I hear this song it makes me so sad and scared. My brother is a volunteer firefighter and this song reminds me of that scene of his funeral. I love this song but it scares the shit outta me.

General CommentRobbie Robertson has come a long way since The Band... I wish I could go back in time to 1976 when he was playing in his last concert with one of the best rock bands ever to exist, and tell him that 30 years down the road this would be his music. We would both have a pretty good laugh about that.
