I can't get through
Knots in my mind
I resent
The self I can't find
I can't get through
A paper and a pencil
Are the best friends I've got
I went to downtown L.A.
Got picked up by the cops
Didn't get what i wanted
But I didn't care a lot
I saw that life was kidding
Look on
I'm warning you
I skipped a life
To be here
I've got no right
I'm bad luck
I used to feel a lot
Things used to be alright
So much was going on
I'm empty now inside
When i thought life was terrible
Things were going fine
Vincent called as a set up
Look on
It's not right
I lost my fame
It's a cheap trick
I wanna do it again
I've got no life
I am a seperate entity
From the guy I was before
Here nobody wants me
I hoped for something more
I flip through empty pages
That I thought I wrote on
I can't tell what is dreaming
Look on

    General Comment:Awesome song.

I think the title speaks for itself. Whatever happens, especially things you don't want or expect - like getting picked up by the cops, when you're empty inside, when you're set up, when you can't tell what is dreaming - look past it. When you're negatively caught up in the present - look on to the future.

If this is right, I guess the next question challenging this would be what happens when you "look on" and only see a bleak future?

I'm not sure if I'm making much sense - either way this song is awesome. The guitar is great.

General Comment:i think so too about all the stuff said but do you ever think about the last thing youll ever look on is death. i have this connection kind of thing with death where i think up ways to die and shit (yeah sad aint it) but i think that that connection has something to do with john (i feel spirtually connected with him i not just a weirdo) and i think we share each others thoughts ( like now im listeninf to the battle of time and i feel like johns beside me telling me about the things in that song) and that we can all help each other out when we are in trouble.
if we look on to the end of the world (as if anyone thinks deep down to that now) how can we look on at that.

so i think it might have somthing to do with looking on untill we know our troubles have been seen to by either the spirits we live wiith or by realising the spirits we know know

General Comment:your comments show me what I already thought, which is that Frusciante's songs are very complex, but he is such a good musician because I think his music can attract people on all levels from just enjoying the sound to appreciating it's meaning.

FruscianteFan - I don't even know who Vincent Gallo is, but I'm going to look him up now.

General Comment:I was just listening to this song today and looking at this lyrics page and I think there is a correction to be made. I think it's supposed to be "I went to downtown L.A.
Got picked up by the cops
    Didn't get what i wanted
    But I didn't care a thought"

    instead of

    "I went to downtown L.A.
Got picked up by the cops
    Didn't get what i wanted
    But I didn't care a lot."

Although it's a minor lyrics change - with regards to us interested in the possible meaning of this song - it can make a significant difference.

General Comment:I almost don't want to comment because I feel like analyzing this song at all will completely ruin it. When I was by myself in the hospital for three weeks in October this song pretty much saved me.
When the guitar changes around, 'It's not right / I lost my fame,' gah. It gets me everytime. It's so beautiful I love it. Probably my favorite John Fru song next to Wednesday's Song

General Comment:For some reason, this song makes me think of him writing about Anthony's perspective on some of it as the mention of going to Downtown L.A. and getting picked up by the cops is something that happened to Anthony. Then again i could totally be off base, lol.

General Comment:Sometimes a song will catch me off guard, and this song did just that. I've had this album on my pod for almost 2 years and I've listened to it a few times, but one day I was just taking a bubble bath and this song came on. And it clicked. I've been listening to it almost non-stop for about 3 days now. Thank you John, thank you Apple for the shuffle feature, and God Bless.
