I saw my love with pretty boy
I saw my love with pretty boy

Murder me Rachael I made a mistake
I loved her to ribbons
I loved her to ribbons
Murder me Rachael I made a mistake
Murder me Rachael
Murder me Rachael

I saw my love with pretty boy
I saw my love with pretty boy
So say goodbye to pretty boy
Just say goodbye to pretty boy

Her pretty little ribbons
Her pretty little name
Sew it in my skin
Never go away
Her pretty little ribbons
Her pretty little name
I sew it in my skin
Never go away

I saw my love with pretty boy
I saw my love with pretty boy
So say goodbye to pretty boy
Just say goodbye to pretty boy
Tomorrow won't be pretty
Tomorrow won't be pretty

Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons
Love her to ribbons

Obsessive love at it's best. Or worst. I can't tell the difference.

I'm not sure that it's necessarily obsessive love. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this how most people feel after a break-up with someone they truly care about?

The lines I don't quite follow are: "Murder me Rachel, I've made a mistake. Murder me Rachel. Murder me Rachel." Does he mean here that he made whatever mistake that broke them up, and now she might as well kill him because he's so depressed? Also, "So say goodbye to pretty boy." This part seems really dark--like he wants to kill "pretty boy"?

I get the vibe from this song that it's about falling madly in love with Rachel--so much so that he pushes her away. It could be about any kind of reason for break-up, but I get the impression that it's about him pushing her away because of the way the second stanza goes. It seems to imply that the mistake mentioned on either side of loving her to ribbons was just that--that he loved her too much.

Great song. All of their songs are amazing, but the real energy songs like Abel, Mr. November, Murder Me Rachel, an Available will always have a special place in my heart.

it is absolutely criminal that this does not have more commentst. this song has to be one of their best. I SAW MY LOVE, WITH PRETTY BOY. SO SAY GOODBYE TO PRETTY BOY.

On the level of Abel for sure.

Haha. My interpretation is coloured very much by my own personal experiences too--but that's the beautiful thing about music and interpreting it. It can mean whatever you want it to. It's about the emotions it inspires within you or the memories it recalls.

I agree that this is about a lost love that has the singer at least considering taking drastic action against her new lover and her.

"her pretty little name sew it in my skin never go away"

He's to the deranged point where he's getting an ex-lover's name tattooed on his skin even after the break-up.

Only recently got into alligator and boxer which are both growers. Heard this though and it blew me away. Their best song (so far)

I saw it as the narrator murdering Rachel for infidelity, ergo "loving her to ribbons." I guess it doesn't make sense in the context of the rest of the song, but I'm clinging to it nonetheless.

    My Interpretation

I agree that the narrator is jealous of his ex's new boyfriend, to the point of either imagining or actually committing murder. I always thought that Rachael was the ex, but now that I've read some of these comments I think Rachael might be a friend he's talking to, telling her to murder him because either he caused the breakup or because he killed his ex and/or his ex's new boyfriend.

There are definitely 4 characters, but I think that everyone else is wrong about who is getting murdered. Narrator kills the girl he loved. I don't think she's an Ex, just someone he is in love with.

Love her to ribbons get's repeated, especially at the end. I think he literally shreds her to ribbons.

I never took Rachel as an ex as much as a current girlfriend he caught out with "pretty boy," who may or may not be a romantic interest, and he knows it's his fault because he loved her "to ribbons," too much. So he's exacting his revenge on "pretty boy."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
