Go away from my window;
Leave at your own chosen speed;
I'm not the one you want, babe;
I'm not the one you need;
You say you're looking for someone
Who's never weak but always strong
To protect you and defend you
Whether you are right or wrong –
Someone to open each and every door,
But it ain't me babe;
No, no, no, it ain't me babe;
It ain't me you're looking for, babe.

Go lightly from the ledge, babe;
Go lightly on the ground;
I'm not the one you want, babe;
I'll only let you down;
You say you're looking for someone
Who'll promise never to part –
Someone to close his eyes to you –
Someone to close his heart –
Someone to die for you and more,
But it ain't me babe;
No, no, no, it ain't me babe;
It ain't me you're looking for, babe.

You say you're looking for someone
To pick you up each time you fall,
To gather flowers constantly
And to come each time you call
And will love you for your life
And nothing more,
But it ain't me babe;
No, no, no, it ain't me babe;
It ain't me you're looking for, babe.

    General CommentI think this song is about loving someone so much when you know you probably aren't the right one for them and you try to give them every reason in the world to not want you yet they still do. You can be so right for each other yet be in a bad situation that you know you'll never be able to give eveything that the other person deserves. When he tells her this, she still wants him even more because she accepts it anyways...that's how I interpret it, but maybe because that's the situation i'm in right now.

    General CommentWow, I'm with you on that one. Everyone says on every song for every artist on here "I can't believe noone has written anything!", but really, it's true! This is such a well known song. Actually, it's shocking that Johnny Cash is spoken so little about on here in general. He's affected and influenced so many of the artists on here it's amazing.

    Fantastic song, by the way, it's one of my favourites of his. I also love Bob Dylan and The Turtles version of it, too. Even Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon did a great job in Walk The Line!

    Peace,
    Sheila.

    General CommentYeah, pretty obvious, he's saying he's not good enough for her, he's not the right one to answer all her prayers for a perfect man. I think maybe he's saying in the meantime he'll do?

    General CommentGod... this song. One night, I sang it to my girlfriend. It was just before she left me. So when she was gone, all I could think was, "you say you're looking for someone who's never weak but always strong. To protect you and defend you, whether you are right or wrong. Someone to open each and every door... But it ain't me babe. No, no, no it ain't me babe. It ain't me you're looking for." Its about knowing that you can't love the person because you're not strong, and you're not true, and you're not worth wanting. Intense stuff. Makes me feel deep in the core of my spirit.

    I love how joaquin phoenix is smiling when he sings it in the movie.

    General CommentWhat? no comments? Anyway, it's pretty much self explanitory "I want someone, but not you" At least that's what I think.

    General Commenti love this song because to me it's a just a "f-you" kind of song. like, "you expect these things out of me, but i just can't be that person."

    i love it. a lot.

    General CommentCash and Dylan, the lyrics were pretty far out for the music of the day. Dylan was blown away by the opening line...
