"Cotton Fields" as written by and Huddie Ledbetter....
When I was a little bitty baby
My mama would rock me in the cradle,
In them old cotton fields back home;

It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.

Oh, when them cotton bolls get rotten
You can't pick very much cotton,
In them old cotton fields back home.

It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.

When I was a little bitty baby
My mama would rock me in the cradle,
In them old cotton fields back home;

It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.

Oh, when them cotton bolls get rotten
You can't pick very much cotton,
In them old cotton fields back home.

It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.

When I was a little bitty baby
My mama would rock me in the cradle,
In them old cotton fields back home;

    General CommentThe original was by Huddy Leadbetter (aka Leadbelly), the old blues singer. Another rendition of one of his songs you might be familiar with was Nirvana's Unplugged rendition of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". I haven't actually heard the original version though, I just recognized the name in the liner notes.

    General CommentThis has to be by far one of my favorite covers of all time. They do such a good job of bringing the blues feeling into the song. It really sounds as if Leadbetter was playing himself. I consider this in the top 3 songs of this album, and top 5 of all CCR songs. I really hope someone else appreciates this song as much as I do.

    General CommentThis song has been covered by a variety of mainstream artists...from Harry Belafonte to The Pogues and Elton John. Best version in my opinion though was by the Beach Boys (which reached no. 5 in the UK) shortly after CCR had their version out.

    General CommentI'm not much for bluesy/southern-style music, I'm more into their rock'n roll sounding songs, but this is such a cool song. I don't know why but it cracks me up. I mean, he writes a songs about cotton balls going rotten! It's too hilarious.

    General CommentThis song makes me remember how difficult is the farmer's life...
    Wounded fingers by the cotton balls...but is good to remember such good times with my parents and brothers in my State of Paraná Brazil. Good memories.
