My girl, my girl had a hold on me
So tight, so tight that I could not see
Girl, she had a hold on me, she held so tight that I could not see
My girl, my girl had a hold on me
One day, one day I let her go
It hurt, it hurt so, you’ll never know
The day I had to let her go, it hurt so bad that you cannot know
One day, one day I let her go.
At night, at night I cry alone
I weap, I weap 'til the early morn'
At night, I cry alone, I weap all night, til the early morn'
At night, at night I cry alone

General CommentIf were going to interpret blues lyrics, which make pretty obvious sense, the narrator had a girl who made him "blind" (oblivious to his surroundings, to his feelings, or any thing that 'you,' the listener, can relate to), and so he had to let her go. He regrets what he did, and now he cries alone.

Simple, but powerful. Dan Auerbach never ceases to amaze me.

General CommentThis is blues. This is 2002. This is confusing!

And here I thought blues was dead.
