An old man has a heart attack in the movie theater
While my friend calls an ambulance
Buster Keaton's dancing
I wait for the punchline
But it never comes

Two blind kids in wheelchairs are crossing the street
And they get hit by the ambulance
Because the light was green
And I wait for the punchline
But it never comes

Promised you that I'd be true
And now chandeliers are crashing down to the ground
Waitresses drop their trays
Trains derail with passengers
While mother snakes eat their young
The water pipes in this town
Burst and flood the living room
The firetrucks lose their way home
And crash into the hospitals

We're causing accidents
Me and you
We're causing accidents
Me and you

Where does a promise go
When you pretend it isn't there?
Do we really think that it could just disappear?

General CommentThis song makes me cry.

Like someone else said, it probably about the problems caused by them being together.

General Commentthis song is about realizing your relationship is self destructive.
when you're on the wrong path, you collide with others as oppose to just meeting them.
    accidents.

    promises don't go away.
    whether their kept or broken
    like chandeliers.

General Commentyea I think it is as well, is it about irony as well? Things that are funny that shouldn't really be? I don't know, but the arcade fire are really good song writers

General Commentthis song is sad, i think its about like well obviously accidents, about tragedies and disastors that run the world today, ironic tragedys like fire trucks losing there way home and crashing into hospitals
the main thing though, is that there is a couple, and they are together out of love, and they have alot of problems and stuff, but they cant seperate cuz they love eachother too much, and so the accidents happening are now becoming their fault, thats how its conveyed, they really arent casuing these accidents in the world, but... they are causing accidents and he names all the other wretched things in the world because a) they suck and someone should acknowledge that and b) it accentuates the problems these ppl are causing and having because they are together
