"End of the line" as written by and Thomas A. Beaudry Gary Thompson....
When the siren's flash is gone
And we're left to carry on
All the memories are too few

When the pastor's music plays
And that casket rolls away
I could live again if you
Just stay alive for me

Please stay now, you left me here alone - it's the end of the line
Please stay I can't make it on my own - it's the end of the line
Make it on my own
It's the end of the line

Now that you are dead and gone
And I'm left to carry on
I could never smile cause you
Won't stay alive for me

Finally,
Your final resting day
Is without me
I weep
And think of brighter days
What about me?

You can't take back, the one mistake
That still lives on after life it takes
In that one day, that changed our lives
And bitter memories are left behind

General CommentIn my oppinion one of the greatest offspring songs ever. great guitar, drums, and lyrics. Just a cry out for a loved one i think, don't know the whole history of the offspring but one of them probably had something happen to them when they came up with it.

General CommentIt's kind of like a spiritual sequel to "Gone Away." "Gone Away" focuses more on the Bargaining stage of death while End of the Line focuses on the acceptance stage.

General Commentyeah, i agree w/ pinkfloydrulez. it sounds like its about someone he knew that was close to him that commited suicide.
    possibly his wife that died.
the lines that make me think its about suicide are:
"I could live again if you could
    Just stay alive for me"
"I could never smile cause you
    Won't stay alive for me"
these lines both say that the person can never be happy again because that person decided to go on without them.
"You can't take back, the one mistake
That still lives on after life it takes"
after you kill yourself, you cant take it back
and everyone is left to live w/ the tragedy of your death.

    good song.

General CommentIt's weird because right after I got Americana one of the teachers at my school, his daughter died, and then I heard this song. It sounds a lot like it could be about someone who was in a car accident. "one mistake" can be the end of your life if you drive like an idiot or get caught in snow or whatever, even for a minute.
