If your shower has a good amount of pressure,
If you plug your ears the water hitting your head
Sounds like a screaming school of fish
Over a crowd of people swimming from a sinking ship...

If your shower has a good amount of pressure (no matter what),
If you plug your ears the water hitting your head
Sounds like a screaming school of fish
Over a crowd of people swimming from a sinking ship...

I said it sounds like a screaming school of fish
Over a crowd of people swimming from a sinking ship
(Over a crowd of people swimming from a sinking ship)...
Or a set of demons speaking through my leaking lips.

You're no ghost and you are not salt,
You're just an overactive man with a...
Then you deserve a cut for crossing the bay bridge
To pick up Nosdam from the airport.

I realize that my mind's made up.
Maybe it's coffee that corrupts me into thinking that you're motivated,
You're clear-headed.
But I'm ready for the next leg of the trek.
I'm falling towards the target
Even if the bullseye is a bullet or a carwreck
But I'm not dust yet and I'm not fog,
I'm an unattractive man but I got a ring on my right hand
'Cause I'm a singer in a rock and roll band
It sounds pathetic but to tell the truth I don't regret it.

I fucked your girlfriend and I'd probably do it again.
You slashed my tires and I'd hope that you would do it again.
I stole your records and I haven't even written them yet.
I lost your number and I changed all the locks.

And all I feel is guilty as I rubberneck a wreck on the highway...

I don't actually like this song. But I like some of the lines. I think the important part of a lyric is that it affects you in some way (not necessarily a good way...) and there is a line here that really gets me.

"And all I feel is guilty as I rubberneck a wreck on the highway..."

On a 4 hour drive back from my (now ex-)girlfriend's house, wondering what was going wrong with the relationship, wondering if it was my fault, wondering if I was a good person. Wondering what I would do if I was the first person to the scene of an accident. I knew basic first-aid and had done courses in that sort of thing, thought I'd pull over if anything like that happened. Turned the corner. Crushed motorbike smoking on the side of an embankment, motorcyclist lying on the side of the road, not moving. No other cars around. Drove past before I realised what I was looking at. Kept driving.

If there is a God, he tested me, and I totally failed. I have felt guilty every day since.

I remember first listening to the lyrics and then remembering it one morning in the shower and it did sound like it. So good. I love the recording on Almost Live From Anna's Cabin better (like a lot of the recordings on that album) than the album version.

the almost live version also changes the lyrics from "stole your records and i haven't even written them yet," to "i stole yor records and i haven't even listened to them yet," which i think is pretty cute i guess.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
