"Crowd Control" as written by and Trey Anastasio Tom Marshall....
Listen now I'm talking
I've been here for weeks
Waiting in this growing crowd
Staring at my feet

The world around me's turning
I'm just standing still
The time has come for changes
Do something or I will

I'm a feather in a storm
I'm a raindrop in the sea
If I don't get enough of you
I'm a lighter shade of me

Sisters, brothers all around you
There's a devil in the crowd
Meet his eye and it's the end of time
If you're praying don't be loud

It's crowded in the lowland
But the fools stay on the hill
You control us now
You have the reins
Do something or we will

So show us why we came here
Before we lay on the ground
Give it to us loud and clear
Make the devil turn around

The world around me's turning
I'm just standing still
The time has come for changes
Do something or I will

It's crowded in the lowlands
But the fools stay on the hill
You control us now
You have the reins
Do something or we will

So show us why we came here
Before we lay on the ground
Give it to us loud and clear
Make the devil turn around

The world around me's turning
I'm just standing still
The time has come for changes
Do something or I will

The time has come for changes
Do something or I will
The time has come for changes
Do something or I will

General CommentThis is one of my favorites from Undermind, I think the lyrics have a lot to do with Trey's feelings towards the band. I'm assuming Trey wrote the lyrics, it doesn't sound like Tom's work.

General CommentIt def could be read to be about Trey's feelings about Phish and everything that was around him at the time... OR it could be about his feelings on the current government.

General CommentIt's about Phish's view of the "fans" The band is on the stage (the hill) and the fans are on the lowlands. They broke up, because Phish started to become something they never wanted to be.
so, phish went on hiatus, to see if it could stop, but it all just became larger than life...which is exactly what they didn't want. If the fans could change, then the band would have continued to play...They felt like they were standing still, and the world wasnt waiting for them...so the fans either had to get rid of the devil, or the band was going to do it....the band did it.

General CommentThat's pretty much how I saw it too "I know things". I think there was a deterioration in the fanbase, Trey mentioned disdain towards the excuse of a Phish show for kids to get wasted. It wasn't about the music anymore, it was about the drugs.

General Commentits sooo obviously about the 'fans' as well as the way the scene went way downhill around 2000.
