[1]

I spent my whole life
In love with despair

Kept my lungs full
With the breath of their
Mute atmosphere

... I became what I hate.

And thus shall I remain
To give birth to a mighty assassin
Armed with a weapon of words

To defy the lies
To never compromise

No.
Today, my name .... is pain.

[2]

I stood
Beyond the world

Whispering secret syllables
In the eyeless dark

Dancing wildly
Round and round on the rotting ground

Surrounded by the dead dusts of Hell ...

This is how I delete myself
& this is how I corrupt everyone else

Obey
Obey
Betray
Betray

You are not unique.
You do not need to think.
Take it, take it!

I will,
I will ... I will.

You succumb, so nicely.

[like an insect staring back, like a dying dove]
My love ..... [no] ..... my love.

[song]

So here we are again
The sheets are stained & bloodied
The animals scratch at my skin

Here we are again
My face is scraped & bloodied
I've nothing left to give

- I wasn't there,
- I'm not involved,
- I'm innocent,
- it's not my fault.

- I wasn't there,
- I'm not involved,
- I'm innocent,
- it's not my fault.

.. here in the suicide trees.
.. here in the suicide trees.

[[no. bloody, bloody, bloody, MURDER!]]
AMONG THE EXCREMENT OF MY SINS!!
It's not happening, it can't be happening, it's not happening.

So here we are again
In secret ceremonies
Changing shape, amen.

Here we are again
Pretending not to notice
The illness sneaking in.

- I wasn't there,
- I'm not involved,
- I'm innocent,
- it's not my fault.

- I wasn't there,
- I'm not involved,
- I'm innocent,
- it's not my fault.

.. here in the suicide trees.
.. here in the suicide trees.

Toil & labor
Hate your neighbor
Faith in favor
Obey!

Toil & labor
Hate your neighbor
Faith in favor
Obey!

OBEY.
OBEY.

HERE, I DO AS I PLEASE!
HERE IN THE SUICIDE TREES!

HERE, I DO AS I PLEASE!
HERE IN THE SUICIDE TREES!!

OBEY!!

HATE YOUR NEIGHBORS!
HATE YOUR NEIGHBORS!!

[the animals scratch at my skin]
It's not happening, it's not happening.

"Was inspired by a passage in Dante's Inferno and written during a very dark phase I found myself enduring. But if the mantra from SEVAS TRA is to have any real meaning [art saves] then I must be a living testament of it. And though I again journeyed through the dark wood of despair, the crusade of creativity salvaged me again." -- Otep Shamaya

    Wait, Dante's inferno?

I've read that book, and yes, It does seem like it is explained through that.

This song is extremely great, but also at the same time, it makes you wonder what type of pain suicidal people go through.

This reminds me of the part where the people that kill themselves are at, in the levels of hell Dante' explained.

Was listening to this song and couldn't help but think of what drives someone to commit suicide. Is it the daily choices they make? How do choices that other people make influence you and your own decision to kill yourself?

Taking it one step further, I see a tree as a lifetime of choices. My life could be represented as a tree. Each branch would be some place where someone else has influenced my life. So even though you're not there when my branch ends (aka life ends), you were there when it began. To say "I wasn't there" isn't true, at one point in my life you were there. At one point I could say "it was your fault".

    My Interpretation

Great song, lyrically and instrumentally...it keeps conjuring images right through of vampires...think it would be a great song for a really dark vampire movie...seems like a vampire at conflict between her new-found habit & nature and her residual human feelings...which could relate to the type of conflict a suicidal person experiences, not sure ...

Btw, i'm not disagree'ng with either Shamaya's intention or the collective interpretation, i'm just sharing my personal emotional response to the song....

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
