The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I still love my ex. She is the love of my life, and I am 31 now. A can't see her, so I have avoided a lot of places, just to avoid seeing her. Erased my facebook page, avoid old friends. etc, I earn a good amount of money, have a girl that any man would want, a good body (sports, boxing, etc), but finally, it doesn't really matters when every third nitght I spend it completely thinking about how we used to be. The most important part of this song, "Goodbye my love".. "I'm so hollow" explains what I have felt since we breakup. I had to cheat on her to kill the reletaion, because I couldn't do it by myself. I am supposed to have everything, but now I don't want any of the things that are suppossed to make me happy. She used to be my best friend, only partner, but I found that I was only the current boyfriend. This us my favourite song when it's time to remember. About having dreams, "I still hold you hand in mine"... those dreams keep me blue the whole day. Even woke up several days because she was on my dream. What's up with this love thing? PS: We broke up about 1 year ago.
